Celebrating Kim Simplis Barrow in Harper’s Bazaar and Enjoying BETEX

belize tourism expo

The Belize Tourism Expo opening night party at the Elite room was lots of fun. We enjoyed meeting new people, appetizers, entertainment speeches and dancing. One of the highlights of the evening was celebrating Kim Simplis Barrow’s recent photo shoot in Belize in the May/June issue of Harper’s Bazaar Interiors. The magazine features an eleven page spread showcasing beautiful Belize, and signed framed copies of the cover were given out to businesses who helped make it possible.

The magazine photo shoot was a 5 day event with fashion designer Joris Hendrik and makeup artist Vanessa Awe, on hand to make it picture perfect. They traveled around the Country and featured the following premier places – Victoria House, El Secreto, Cayo Espanto, Turtle Inn, Silk Cayes & Splash Dive Center and Lamanai. To see more pictures of the magazine spread, visit San Pedro Sun newspaper article Kim Simplis Barrow promotes Belize in Harper’s Bazaar Interiors.

The flashing glasses at the bar were the inspiration to make this short clip.

Please note the slide show option of my photo gallery is acting up since downloading the latest version of wordpress. Working on a fix for that asap.

The 2014 Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX), highlighted Belize as a world class travel destination with no shortage of options. Belize’s tourism industry has expanded over the years, tracked tourist arrival figures, businesses taking part in the Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX) agree that the industry will continue to grow. The trade show ends on Friday afternoon and some participants/visitors will go on site inspections of the tourism destinations.

While at the show I caught up with Douglas Cooke, publisher & editorial director from Destinations by Jax Fax, a well known travel marketing Magazine. Doug has been attending the Belize Tourism Expo since 1996, and this is what he had to say: “BETEX provides travel agents with a great opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Belize Tourism product. Not only are they able to meet most of the local tourism suppliers, but they also have the opportunity to experience the many faceted tourism product firsthand.”

If you want be in the loop, like the following Facebook pages to keep up with BETEX, Belize and travel: Belize Tourism Expo, Belize Tourism Industry Association, Belize Tourism Board, Belize Vacation, Destinations by Jax Fax travel marketing magazine.

What’s a trade show without good swag? My last picture above shows a few of the gifts I got at the show Islands Magazine and Destinations by Jax fax Travel magazines that I got for my friend Lara at Romantic Travel Belize. The fancy BTB pen went to tacoboy (his favorite kind of pen) and for myself I was delighted with my Tropic Air and El Secreto water bottles, the second one even came with a cool wooden flash drive.

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s... always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. There is so much information it's amazing! Thank you Laurie!!!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and... local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do... what everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
