Belize Poker Trivia

crazy canucks belize

Flash back to yesterday 1:00am – Unfortunately tech troubles  sending out Sunday Brunch facebook invite for Estel’s is causing a major slowdown and thoughts of being horizontal are slowly winning. I had to do a date change on Wish you were here – breakfast and backgammon facebook invite for Estel’s and our internet went down before I could make the necessary fix. Not wanting to let that sit till morning, I grabbed my phone, walked down the road and stood near Gigi and Paula’s hoping they had working wifi – luckily they did and I was able to make the switch. When I got home I called Belize Telemedia Ltd.  and got Patricia on the line who was super nice and very helpful.  It is a little known fact that BTL customer service offers help around the clock – even tacoboy was surprised at that. Not long after my call our internet came back.

11:00pm –  Just got home from dinner and dice game with Dick and Zac, It was good to get away for a bit and leave all technology at home. I knew I would be back at my desk before the night was over, I figure if I can get enough done tonight I can add beach time to my schedule tomorrow.

8:20 am yesterday morning – One of the first things I did after posting info on the Girls poker night was to email one of the Island Poker players and see what advice he might have for me if any. I got a very funny reply and an offer to use it as a contest.  For anyone who has played at Pedro’s Poker room, if you can guess which Island Poker player sent me the reply below you will win a mystery prize. Please leave a comment with your guess and the winner will be announced tomorrow night.

You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em Know when to walk away and know when to run You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealing’s done.

Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin’ Is knowin’ what to throw away and knowing what to keep ‘Cause every hand’s a winner and every hand’s a loser And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.

I play better when I am drinking- not drunk- drinking- but then drinking changes to drunk and the patient player cleans up. So the best advice in poker is patience. It’s a game of patience and I am not good with that!

Here are a few more fun Poker trivia questions – will post answers to these tonight as well.

1. Where was Texas Hold’em invented?

2. Why is the hand Aces and Eights referred to as the Dead Man’s Hand?

3. Why is the 10-2 called the Doyle Brunson?

4. Name 3 Hollywood actors who have won major tournaments.

5. What is the name of the book Barry Greenstein gives an autographed copy to every player who knocks him out of a tournament?

Leaving you with pics from today’s trip to town with George and Dick.

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice... to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. There is so much information it's amazing! Thank you Laurie!!!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local... information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do what... everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
