Sunday Getaway

Cindy and I are off to Dangriga on the 7am Tropic Air flight for a photo shoot today. It was an unexpected surprise that came about after the pool yesterday.

I am sorting through bikinis and wondering if I should pack my twister game and a frisbee. I still have to steam dresses ugh. Back to packing.

Will leave you with a couple of message from SAGA Volunteers

SAGA Humane Society would like to give our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone involved who supported our fund raising efforts during La Reina de la Costa Maya. During the successful festivities SAGA hosted “Ladies and The Champ” at Captain’s Casino, “La Reina de la Costa Maya Reserved Tables” and a booth at the block party in Central Park. We were able to do this with the wonderful support of Marisa Salazar, Gach Guerrero and the entire Costa Maya Committee. We were honored to be able to be a part of assisting such a prestigious event.

SAGA would like to give a special recognition to the people who contributed their time or talents in these events. With your ongoing assistance SAGA will be able to support Shelter Animals until they find Forever Homes.

SAGA – Animal Angels

We often notice and complain about the things that bother or annoy us, but we also take for granted the things that make our life safer, happier and more pleasant. Whether you like animals or not, living in San Pedro, you will encounter dogs and cats daily. Responsibly owned pets are a benefit to the community but unfortunately there are still some irresponsible owners who allow their animals to breed or stray.

Stray dogs and cats used to be poisoned in San Pedro. This was extremely upsetting to animal lovers and pet owners who lived locally and to tourists, who heard about or experienced an ‘eradication’. This was not good for the animals or the people of San Pedro. So, what happens now?

SAGA Humane Society have an army of volunteers who help to keep our streets safe and clean. They are truly animal ‘angels’ but the work they do often goes unnoticed. SAGA Humane Society is an important community organisation providing a range of essential services.

SAGA do regular stray dog round ups and help to trap wild and abandoned cats so that the Town Board do not have to take the time and expense to do so. Each month SAGA provides them with statistics showing the positive impact they have on our island. Right now, SAGA is caring for 42 dogs & puppies and 20 cats & kittens. Tragically only 16 dogs and cats were adopted in the last two months from SAGA.

They deal with complaints about nuisance animals dealing with everything from noise and barking issues to dog bites and feral cat infestations. They also deal with calls about wildlife and often rehabilitate wild animals that are brought in with injuries. Sadly, someone also has to pick up the bodies of animals killed in road traffic accidents – and that service is also left to SAGA.

SAGA receives no government funding and they work very closely with other groups locally and internationally to ensure that they are providing the best quality of service with properly trained staff and helpers. Without the cooperation and assistance of groups such as the World Society for the Protection of Animals and the Humane Society of the United States, SAGA would be unable to play such a vital role in our day to day lives.

So the next time you see a healthy dog in San Pedro or notice how clean our streets are, remember that SAGA Humane Society are our own animal ‘angels’, swooping in to care for our island animals.

Pop in to visit the SAGA team and let them know how much you appreciate everything they do for San Pedro. While you’re there, please think about adopting an animal. If you want to help please call SAGA on 226 3266. Even angels’ need a helping hand sometimes.
