Oceana Belize

Today is going to be crazy busy so trying to get blog crossed off the list asap. Going to pool for 10am and  before  will take Dick a fruit smoothie and likely watch a bit more Japan footage – his back is still out. After that back to work for a bit then I am doing Zac’s veggie stuff  at Asian Garden Spa tonight as he has a wedding rehearsal and will need some energy left  meeting the Roblios [hopefully] and Jana for sure at Pedro’s Bar for the big St Patrick’s Day Party. Can’t wait for the Irish stew – still have to consider finding something green to wear.

Here is an important message from Ambergris Caye Citizens for Sustainable Development and the chamber of commerce.

Subject: Oceana on Thursday at Lion’s Den

Hello Everyone,

Oceana is a member of the Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage and it is dedicated to the protection of our marine resources by addressing serious national matter such as offshore oil development. As part of their ongoing work with the Coalition, they keep informing and educating the general populace about the dangers of allowing exploration and drilling offshore and in our protected areas.

Oceana, in collaboration with the Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage and it’s local partner, Ambergris Caye Citizens for Sustainable Development (ACCSD) is hosting a series of activities in San Pedro Town with a view to update the citizenry on the status of oil exploration and drilling in our country. The aim is for the people to learn about the oil issues, sign the petition for a referendum and equip them with sufficient information so as to know how to vote on this matter on referendum day.

The first of these events in San Pedro will be the “Oil Exploitation Public Forum” scheduled for Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Lion’s Den, San Pedro Town. They will have speakers discussing the oil contracts, the law and it’s implications for us, the environmental impacts of this industry and its socio-economic realities.

You and your members are extended a warm invitation to attend this event – bring your friends and family along. There will be an opportunity to meet the presenters and ask questions so you can learn more about this issue.

Thank you in advance for all the support.

Embracing development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Thank you, AC Chamber
