More December Events

by tacogirl 13/12/2017
written by tacogirl 13/12/2017
San Pedro Events

There are so many things to do in the month of December on Ambergris Caye that I thought it warranted another post. If you are planning for next year already (as some have already passed and others are intermingled with these), you can see all the previously listed ones in the earlier post; December Events in Belize.

Each event name or location below has a link (in blue) directly to their Facebook page (some are event pages), so you can see full details.

December 13 – San Pedro Walkaholics Poker Run
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM; North Ambergris Caye. Meet at Wayos Beach Bar. Route is: Coco Locos, Feliz, Dive Bar, Marbucks, TruckStop, with the flop at Crocs Sunset Bar. After party at Crazy Canucks with the Live Band. Maybe if you are lucky and are friends with the winner they will buy you a drink 😉 I am rooting for my editor Shirlee. She is doing it with her daughter’s Ashley and Paige and visiting niece.

School Programs

There is nothing like going to Island school Christmas shows to get in the spirit of things. Truly a unique and fun holiday experience.

December 13 – Island Academy Christmas Pageant
The event starts at 7:00 PM and all are welcome. They always do a creative and fun job of spreading Holiday Cheer on the Caribbean Sea. Annie’s Pastries will be providing turkey dinner including dessert after the show for $15.00. Tickets needed to be purchased from Annie’s before today. You can always check if you can squeak in. Or find a friend willing to give you a taster at the event.

December 13 – R.C. School Christmas Show
Start time is 5:00 PM. R.C. students will be showcasing their talents. If you want to find the spirit of Christmas, there is nothing like watching kids bring it.

December 14 – (ACES) Christmas Show 2017
6:00 PM; Ambergris Caye Elementary School Join the ACES kids and spread some holiday happiness.

Fundraiser and Fun

Decmeber 15 – San Pedro Holiday Boat Parade Captain’s Meeting
7:00 PM at The Palapa Bar and Grill. This is when the boat Captain’s get assigned their number, (so the judges can easily identify each entry) and are given their line up instructions. Navigating in the dark takes a special skill that needs the Captain’s to be alert – the meeting is also a bit of a social gathering as the will be quite busy during the actual Parade. The Palapa Bar and Grill is also an official viewing area for the parade

December 20 – Gift Exchange Pot Luck Fundraiser
4:00 PM – 10:00 PM at Sandy Toes Beach Bar & Grill. What could be better than paring a fantastic beach bar view of the Caribbean Sea with White Elephant present game (a BC’s beach bar tradition) and a pot luck? Sometimes you can really score at these kinds of events and you will definitely eat like a King and help a great cause. The proceeds will go to a scholarship fund which gives a child the opportunity and support they need to stay in school.

December 21 – Dirty Santa Ugly Christmas Sweater Bash
7:00 PM at Crazy Canucks Beach Bar. Get your holiday ugly groove going and you could be a winner winner chicken dinner. Sweaters, T-shirts and tanks all qualify. If Ronnie and Lisa Cyer are going I am betting they win a prize. They were super creative as Sharknado at the Crazy Canucks Halloween Party.

DJ begins at 7:00 PM. Free shots throughout the night.

Judges Choice prize categories:
1. Ugliest sweater
2. Most original ugly sweater
3. Best couple/group ugly sweater combo
4. Most festive ugly sweater

December 22 – Maruba Resort & Beach Club Grand Opening
Enjoy a December Chill out Tropical Style with DJ Matt Hoy at Secret Beach. FB message JLA International Music on the event listing above for more details (they noted a flyer was on the way and more info coming soon).

Christmas Dinner Locations

December 25

El Divino Restaurant at Banana Beach Resort
Served from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Always a great Christmas Dinner right down to a tasty dessert – Menu will include fish cake appetizers and a “Surf & Turf” entree. Watch their facebook page and get ready to make your reservations.

Gem Restaurant at Sapphire Beach Resort
Dinner service from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and live entertainment starts at 6:00 PM cost US $40.00. Call 668-2615 or email gembelize10@gmail.com for reservations.
Choice of appetizer: Coco Caribe style shrimp, jalapeno fried plantains, spinach cilantro or shrimp bisque served with dinner rolls.
Choice of Entree: A glass of red or white wine and your choice of Entrée – Grilled chicken breast with green grape white wine paragon cream, served with steamed coconut rice and house vegetables or grilled shrimp and lobster, fresh parsley butter sauce, served with herb roasted potato, red pepper, sweet corn and broccoli.
Dessert: Cashew caramel apple pie.

Christmas Day Lunch

I caught a FB thread of restaurants that are open for lunch on Christmas day. Red Ginger (at the Phoenix Resort) and Blue Water Grill (at Sunbreeze Hotel) were the first two mentioned (I confirmed that both restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner). Then someone else chimed in with smart advice to play it safe and make a reservation, she also speculated a lot more would be open. My two cents, watch all the local business Facebook pages as a lot more options will start getting posted closer to the time.

New Year’s Eve

December 31

Crazy Canucks Beach Bar New Year’s Eve Bash
This one kicks off at 8:00 PM and ends around 2:00 AM. Don’t want to deal with the big crowds at Central Park? Ring in 2018 south of town under the stars and away from the masses. Glow-stick bracelets and party favors will be provided.
Easy Choice – great music, great party place on the Caribbean sea with giveaways and free shots throughout the night.

Palapa Bar and Grill
9:00 PM – 1:00 AM. This party will also take you away from the crowds at Central Park, but yet is close enough to give you the full view of the fireworks at midnight. DJ Padron wil play musicfrom the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

The first picture below is a sure sign it is Christmas on this cool Tropical Island I call home, decorated golf carts. In the second picture, decorations continue to go up – Santa and a couple of Frosty the Snowmen are riding the pirate ship. Featured image above is at South Beach south of town, a great new beach hangout.

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s... always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. There is so much information it's amazing! Thank you Laurie!!!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and... local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do... what everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
