December Events in Belize

Soon everyone in Belize will be buzzing around with excitement of the holiday season approaching. Belizeans love Christmas. Who wouldn’t with day time high temperatures of 82°F (28°C)  with overnight low of 73°F (22°C) are the norm with an average of 11 hours of sunshine per day 😀 

The decorations have started to go up in town, and soon many folks who haven’t done so already will begin lighting up their homes.

If you are looking to fill your social calendar with some “holiday cheer” there are many December events in Belize you might want to take in. They include a wide range business events and fundraisers with many (not all) being about the spirit of Christmas.

December 2nd – Stars & Dragons Youth Volleyball Tournament & BBQ Sale
Stars Volleyball Club; 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Princess Margaret Dr., Belize City
Promoting the development of youth volleyball athletes. The tournament will include age groups of under 10 and 11 to 17 in exhibition matches. A fundraiser BBQ will be coupled with the tournament, for tickets contact Stars Volleyball Facebook page or call 615-5357.

December 3rd – Raise Me Up Fundraiser
CG Esthetic; 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Sea Grape Dr.
Come in and get pampered with getting your hair, nails, and make-up done then enjoy a professional photo shoot. There will be different packages to choose from. There will also food, drink, music, tarot card reading, and a “clothes swap! More details on Facebook Event invite.

December 3rd – Lighting of the Christmas Tree
Central Park, starting at 6:00 pm.
The San Pedro Town Council invites everyone to come out and witness the annual event. There will be entertainment by San Pedro schools and music from Pandemonium Steel Ban. Refreshments will be served. Information available on the San Pedro Town Council Facebook page.

December 5th – Belize Hotel Assosication Bi-Annual Meeting
Banyan Bay Suites, San Pedro, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Hear about the Belize Hotel Association activities over the current membership year, and the exciting projects scheduled for the upcoming months! There will be dynamic guest speakers.

December 7th – Belize Tourism Industry Association 32nd AGM 
Radisson Fort George Hotel & Marina, Belize 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

December 8th – Offshore Oil Moratorium Legislation Vote
The members of the House of Representatives will meet at the National Assembly building in Belmopan on December 8th to debate and vote on the Petroleum Operations (Maritime Zone Moratorium) Bill, 2017. The Senate is scheduled to meet on December 13th. There is still time to let Belizean leaders know you support this legislation.

December 9th – Holiday Craft Fair & Tree Lighting Ceremony
Truck Stop, North Ambergris Caye 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Get some Christmas shopping done with hand-crafted products or holiday sweets. December 10th – Love FM’s San Pedro Christmas Parade
San Pedro, 5:30 pm.
Parade Route: Boca Del Rio – Laguna Drive – Pescador Drive – Tarpon Street – Barrier Reef Drive

December 10th – Polyclinic Fundraiser
Caribbean Villas Hotel, San Pedro, 11 am – 9 pm

December 16th – San Pedro Holiday Boat Parade
Raise Me Up is proud to announce that the boat parade tradition will be kept alive again this year!
The first place prize for this year’s winning boat will be $5,000 in cash; $3,000 for small boat and $2,000 for best charity float. There will also be prizes for runners-up and other category winners! It’s free to register, and charity registrants will receive a starter kit to kick off their decorations. December 12th and 23rd – House of Culture Events
December 12th Mananitas a la Virgen de Guadalupe mass at 4:00 am; procession in front of the Catholic church at 5:30 pm, with a fair to follow.
December 23rd is the Jankunu Dance Festival. This is a satirical dance where individuals don a pink mask and dress like slave masters from English Colonial days. It is accompanied by fast tempo drumming. More details on San Pedro House of Culture Facebook page.

December 23rd and 24th – Sagebrush Church Events
Paradise Theater
December 23rd Christmas Eve “Eve” Movie Night – “The Polar Express” 6:30 pm
It’s a free event for the entire family. They will be serving hot chocolate candy canes.

Christmas Day – December 25 – Public and bank holiday.
Boxing Day – December 26 – This holiday was originally a British custom when service providers (mailmen etc.) were given gifts in boxes as a token of appreciation. The Commonwealth countries now just get an extra holiday to put away “toy” boxes and eat the leftovers from the night before.
