Pageants in Belize

Belize is a country that has no shortage of Fashion Shows and “Beauty” Pageants. The Little Miss Chiquita, Elementary and High School pageants, as well as Miss San Pedro, are all competitions held on Ambergris Caye alone. The name is used loosely because there is much more to pageantry now than just beauty. Pageants of the 21st century also showcase intellect, and talent more than ever before. A young woman must have a great deal of confidence in herself to be among the candidates.

Confidence and Drive

Michelle Nunez – Miss Belize 2016-17, is representing our country at the Miss America Latina Pageant. Michelle recently showcased her National Costume/Traje de Fantasia to a captivated audience (photos were taken by Enie and supplied by Josie Nunez) She also represented the Richness of the Caribbean Sea. Her costume in the image above was designed by Gabriel Garcia Gmx Ow. It was handcrafted with Rhinestones, Sea Shells, and Pearls – luxurious tropical pageant-wear.

Michelle began her road to pageantry fame with winning  the title of the Miss San Pedro Pageant 2014 – 15. She is also the founder of Shaping Healthy Identities through Nurturing and Empowerment (S.H.I.N.E.) a program for teen girls encouraging self esteem, healthy body image, sexual risk behavior and so much more.

From a recent Gach Guerrero interview with Michelle: “SHINE means a lot to me. I turned something so negative in my life and created something so positive for me and my entire community. Britney Travis and I have been a great team and so excited to announce that in early October we will commence our 4th program.”

Miss America Latina Pageant Week Schedule

It has been a busy week for the contestants with three consecutive events. The following preliminaries will determine the top 10 candidates.

Monday, September 26; Group interviews and evening wear competition.
Tuesday, September 27; Bikini competition.
Wednesday, September 28; Individual interviews

Miss America Latina del Mundo Pageant will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016, at Occidental Grand Xcaret Resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
