Most people would think owning a souvenir shop that also catered to large wedding parties would be a seasonal desk heavy job. For owner Lara Goldman it was an opportunity to travel the country as she continuously built her inventory. She sought out over two dozen great Belizean artists and vendors in each district and got to know their story.
As a result, shelves of 12 Belize are filled with colorful creative and stylish items. The business is doing well and the accounting shows, steady continuous annual growth. Lara’s main reason for selling is that she owns and operates two other successful businesses – Romantic Travel Belize and Lemon Crush. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a little less busy, especially when you live on a tropical island 🙂

taco Tip #7
Always use a reputable realtor and do your due diligence when buying a business. Several years back an American couple I know was looking into a business purchase, they really wanted to transition to a tropical lifestyle before retiring. The two had researched it from afar, they were both excited and things were looking good.
After a visit to thoroughly go over the place in person, on paper, things were not quite as rosy as they seemed in an email. The pair were a touch sad but made the smart choice deciding it was s better to take a pass than to rush into the wrong thing just to make their dream happen sooner than later. Although they did not end up moving to Belize, the couple still vacations here regularly and though it may have changed slightly, they have not lost sight of their dream.
One Last Thought and Some Shop Pics
It is not as frequent for Belize business opportunities to come along that is not food and drink related. If this interests you, it is definitely worth looking into.
