Happy Holidays and Off Season Accommodations Deals

Happy Holidays wishing everyone a safe and fun St Georges Caye day.

For those of you who want a bit of Belize history, Wiki to the rescue… St. George’s Caye was settled as a town in 1650, and was the largest settlement in what was at the time British Honduras in the 17th century and 18th century until its importance was eclipsed by the growth of Belize City. From 3 September through 10 September 1798, the British settlers fought and defeated a small Spanish fleet sent to drive them from the area; this battle is marked as a national holiday in Belize each September 10th as The Battle of St. George’s Caye.

This year I am celebrating a quiet day at home and enjoyed a very brief rain shower this morning.

This time last year I was celebrating the well known September 10th holiday and 50 trips around the sun in style. I decided to use luxurious, peaceful adventurous and clever for travel adjective goals. I hit the mark with a 5-star Jungle Canopy View Tree House. Low season is a great time to score off-season accommodation deals in Belize and I got this one for about half the price, I also got a deal on meals for the entire stay, I love dining at Caves Branch as you never know who you will sit next too. I met plenty of great people over the course of my 4 days there.

It was an adventure just getting to and from my room alone, there is nothing like being 200 feet above the jungle canopy and I definitely got my daily cardio going back and forth to the dining hall. Aside from the people and the buffet, I loved watching a daily aerial acrobatics butterfly show and patiently waited for them to take a rest break so I could catch a few still shots.

I wanted to go enjoy night time in the jungle up close and since it was my big 50, I decided to make my nighttime walk a disco party forgoing my transistor radio and enjoying the symphony of bugs as my soundtrack. It was thrilling and a bit creepy at times but overall, I greatly enjoyed playing with my disco flashlight and making artsy patterns on the leaves and occasionally catching sight of the wildlife around me. If you like the thought of a night jungle tour then click through to see some cool wildlife from the official one, previous time I stayed at Caves Branch with my friend Aimee.

Half price luxury comes with all the full price benefits. Here are a few of the great towel art sculptures that were on my luxurious king bed daily. My Favorite is still the crocodile that was on my bed when Aimee and I stayed at Caves Branch in a ground floor cabana. These ones are still worthy of admiration.

Of course, the rest of my room was absolutely gorgeous and could have comfortably slept a few more – perfect for family vacations with a bunk bed. I especially loved the view from the rooftop deck and outdoor shower.

Room shots courtesy of Caves Branch, the outdoor shower was from a pic I took. The mountain view from the upper deck was fabulous. I could not get enough of the fact that we were above tree height in some spots.

Thanks for enjoying the benefits to my site Nicole.

Just like weather sargasso is pretty impossible to predict, anyone’s guess what it will be like in December. The smell can be unbearable depending on the wind and sometimes surprisingly you smell very little when you would think you would smell it a lot. End of day is worse usually as it is the plant rotting that smells. – https://tacogirl.com/difference-sargasso-seagrass-in-belize/

Secret beach or any west side one accessible by boat (there are people who will do that for a day or half day trip)

Sunbreeze Suites is right in town and secret beach a few miles north-west it is a 30-40 min drive, keep in mind you will likely doing 15 mph on a golf cart.

As far as alternatives, have you considered Caye Caulker? Here is a post with a good video in it to show you more of that island.- https://tacogirl.com/jesse-james-style-adventure-caye-caulker/

Hello! I have been following this website for a few months now since my husband and I decided to go to Belize this December. It’s very interesting and helpful….so thank you. I have a few questions that I hope you can answer. We were planning on going to Ambergris Caye for a week but I am now second guessing that decision because I have read a ton of recent reviews saying the stench from the rotting sea grass is unbearable. Is this true? If so, do you think it would be gone by December 2018? I have also read there are not really any real beaches in Ambergris Caye except Secret Beach? About how far from downtown San Pedro is Secret Beach? We were planning on staying at Sunbreeze Suites so if you know where that is, would you know the distance to Secret Beach from Sunbreeze Suites? Lastly, due to my concerns, do you feel a different island would be better suited for us? We will likely go snorkeling but also want a beach within walking distance that we can go to on most days. Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond to these questions….I really appreaciate it!
