February Weather
The weather on Ambergris Caye is finally starting to be more “normal” for this time of year. After the extremely cool and often wet January we had, it’s nice to put away the raingear and long sleeved shirts. Although the rain has lightened up, it’s always a good idea to keep an umbrella close by (for rain or sun) and a rain jacket or whatever you need to protect your electronics from a sudden shower.
February 1st still had a low of 18°C (66°F) but since then we have been seeing an average high of 25°C (77°F) and low of 22°C (71°F). If the new year temperatures (air and water) are of interest to you, click to read more about February Weather in Belize.
Groundhog Day
Groundhog day is a popular tradition for many of my readers in the United States and Canada where people await the sunrise and the groundhog’s exit from his winter den. If the rodent sees his shadow he regards it as a forecast of six more weeks of bad weather and returns to his den. Early spring arrives if he does not see his shadow and remains above ground.
This year’s February 2nd Groundhog predictions:
- Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania saw his shadow and went back to sleep.
- Wiarton Willy, the albino groundhog from Wiarton, Ontario Canada; also predicted more winter.
- Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam, Canada’s other famous furry forecaster, did not see his shadow as he waddled around a small barn in a wildlife park. That means nice weather in the Maritimes.
- As for Belize, stay tuned and see what the groundhog saw as soon as I finish editing the Groundhog Day Boat Bar Crawl pictures 🙂
Helping a Gracious Man
Carlo and Ernie’s Runway Bar is hosting an important fundraiser Sunday, February 11, 2018, with drink specials, raffles, a bake sale, and music with Carlos Jex and Dennisito. Guest musicians are welcome. Watch their facebook page for start time and up to date event details.
The day is in honor of Charlie Trent; to help him with fast assistance for Merida Medical.
A few years back Charlie suffered a stroke and he worked hard to gain back most of his independence after having limited use on one side. Through all the setbacks and challenges Charlie always had a smile for everyone and a positive attitude.
Now both his carotid arteries are severely blocked and he needs to travel to Merida for surgery.
For all the people Charlie has touched in a positive way over the last 13 years likely at BC’s Beach Bar or Runway Bar (myself included) let’s join together and help return the favor.
Don’t forget, go early and get some of Runway’s well-loved BBQ. Enjoy a great party and help raise Merida medical money.
