UPDATE: As I mentioned below; I found a couple more that were posted on Facebook after I originally published this post:
Pirate’s South Beach – Along with their regular Funday Sunday Beach BBQ, they will have the game on outside Bar TV. They’ll give free shots after every touch down.
Sandbar – Although they are not having an official party, they will have the game on the TV and will serve Super Bowl food specials: $1.00 wings, Buckets of Beer (6 for $30.00), and three sliders (your choice of beef, chicken, or pork) for $12.00.
Those that know me well know I am not a football fan, however, I am always willing to partake and cheer a friends team on as I have a few uber-fans in my life. It is always fun watching people get excited and cheer at the TV.
With the importance of the game and number of great bar parties happening I thought this warranted it’s own post instead of being included in with Events, Season Closure and February Weather on Ambergris Caye. I am sure there are way more parties than the 11 I have listed below. Watch Facebook as I am sure new ones will be getting posted and shared.
February 4 – Super Bowl Sunday
Kick-off is 5:30 PM local time. Philadelphia Eagles vs. the New England Patriots. The game is being played in Minneapolis. Even though this type of football is played in the U.S. it does have a fairly large Belizean following. With many “snowbirds” visiting as well, of course there will be Super Bowl parties all around the island – listed below from north to south.
The Truck Stop will be showing the big game on a huge 18-foot screen. They’ll have specials on wings and pizza, and will play a few games of their own. The area is big but seating is limited so bring a seat if you have a portable one.
Croc’s Sunset Sports Bar: Watch on one of their 14 big screen TVs. They’ll also have Land Shark buckets, Jello shots, and “drunken” Gummie Bears. Music after the game by DJ Chabo.
Palapa Bar and Grill: Get there early and listen to some greta music with Conrad Olsen and friends beginning at 3:00 PM, leading up to game time – on 5 big screen TVs. Football pool squares are up and ready for sign-up. They’ll have free jello shots throughout the game.
Lola’s Pub January 22 post: “Hmmm…of course we will be doing something for Super Bowl!!! Silly question.” Since posing that, the popular sports bar announced they will be opening at 2:00 PM and will be showing San Pedro Pirates football (soccer) against the Belize Defence Force, before the Super Bowl. You can watch on one of their 4 screens, indoors with A/C.
Carlo and Ernie’s Runway Bar is a well-loved venue for NFL football all season long. Their Facebook page already has a Super Bowl logo as it’s cover photo. They’ll have the TV’s on in the bar area a huge screen set up under the covered extended seating area (10 screens in total). Their football squares “pool” is up to $6000. There will also be t-shirt giveaways, and of course – drink specials.
Crazy Canucks Beach Bar at Exotic Caye Resort doesn’t hype up Super Bowl that much but still wanted to accommodate fans of both their Sunday Funday Music and NFL football. There will be a TV set up under the tent for game viewing and they’ll offer wing specials during the game. I love their Garlic Parm and the honey mustard.
Amber Beach Bar & Grill at Caribbean Villas will have their regular Sunday Beach Funday afternoon BBQ and music by DJ Debbie before the game. It’ll be shown on the bar TV as well as a big screen on the beach.
El Divino at Banana Beach Resort has a nice air-conditioned lounge perfect to place kick back on the comfy couches and watch one of the 5 big screen TVs around the room. Their party will include Land Shark bucket of beer (6 beers) for $25.00. Also, if you purchase one large ceviche, you’ll get 4 Land Shark free. Of course they’ll have their 2 for 1 special on local rum as well.
Mahogany Bay Village – All village retail outlets are offering food specials during the Super Bowl. They’ll have music, drink deals and free popcorn! A great place for a bit of “crawling” in close proximity.
Lone Star Grill and Cantina doesn’t have anything posted yet, but they played the NFL Conference Championship games on January 21, but they confirmed that they will play the game on their 9-foot screen, and they are also selling “squares” in the football pool, and will be serving homemade lasagna. Yum! Message them on their facebook page linked above if you want to confirm their start time and superbowl specials.
Stax Sunset Lounge and Cafe has a 12-foot screen in front and a screen on the deck in the back with a Martini bar. “Jake from State Farm” is going to be the celebrity bartender serving his specialty…shot and a beer. Great option for those further south who do not want to come to town.
