Cousins Erin and Liam arrive today – they should be on the island around pm via Maya Island Air. Liam is little Erin’s best friend and lives within walking distance back in Canada. Luckily it is a nice sunny day – Erin was not to pleased to see me wearing hard and scarf on blog last week at Lola’s Pub opening.
Madame decided that we need to get back to class and so today is the first once since before Christmas. I really want to go but thinking the water is going to be on the cold side. Crap another bikini bit the dust. Bottoms are not worn out by any means but the elastics tend to go fast here rendering them unwearable. Any chance anyone coming down soon has an Old Navy near them that sells suits? Could use one or two more and I cannot shop online there as the whole Canadian cc thing – they are not sympathetic to that issue.
I got talking to Carole on the coconut phone and that led me calling Maureen and ditching class so I could go out on the Miss Carole with her and Jack. Carole drove the boat all the way to Las Terazzas and Jack gave her pointers about specific areas along the reef.
Big Erin and Liam made it in ok and were glad to change into shorts and have a nice dinner outside. We met up with Jack – Jo – Erin – Heather and Taylor at El Divino and enjoyed a great meal on the patio.Nothing like outside dining in the tropics when you have just arrived from cold Canada. Thanks Jimmy Crystal and all the great El Divino staff for making our get together a good one.
Last night I got a call from Walter about a night security guard here who whose Mom Dad and 2 sisters were all in Port Au Prince Haiti. Sadly as far as he knows from his cousin they have all passed but he is trying to get back there and needs help. Walter and Renee are doing there best to sort through what needs to be done and help him through this very difficult time. I told them I would mention it on the blog and help them fundraise when they are ready and know how much is needed to get him home. If you are interested in helping please leave a comment and I will keep you updated.
This just in below from Michele – Life’s a Beach Blog. If you are not in Playa Del Carmen and want to help just go to her blog and leave her a comment.
On Sunday January 24th, fund-raising events will be executed simultaneously in Playa del Carmen, Akumal and Puerto Morelos to raise much needed funds for the victims of the earthquake that wracked the small island nation last week. “Hope for Haiti” is a local, grassroots campaign whose mission is to raise badly needed funds to support the relief efforts going on in Haiti.
“Hope for Haiti” Playa del Carmen will be held on Sunday, January 24th 2010 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm on the beach at Wicky’s on calle 10 and the beach. Wicky’s has generously volunteered their beach and their culinary skills to make this event a huge success. There will be a fabulous BBQ with pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, veggies and all the fixin’s you can eat for $200 pesos per adult, $100 pesos for children 12 and under. Children under 3 eat for free! There will also be great beer and drink specials running all day and a 50/50 raffle!
Playa del Carmen’s own, J.J. and the Nasty Bastards Band, will be providing entertainment with guest performances by some of Playa’s favorite visiting musicians. Proceeds from the event will be sent to Doctors Without Borders to support their relief efforts in Haiti.
I hope you will all join us on Sunday. Enjoy the newly reclaimed beach, the live music and the delicious food and help us help our Caribbean neighbors.
Thanks Liz will do.
