The organizing committee of San Pedro Lobsterfest is pleased to announce the official dates of the 2011 San Pedro Lobsterfest. Festivities will begin on Sunday June 19th, 2011 and run through the week, culminating with the traditional Lobsterfest Block Party on Saturday June 25th, 2011. Mark your calendars, as this celebration is sure to be the biggest and best ever.
Dear Chamber members and friends,
As you may know, Hurricane Richard roared ashore on the coast of Belize as a high Cat. 1 storm Sunday evening. It plowed right through the middle of the country, not letting up with 90mph winds until almost reaching the Guatemalan border. Many of our countrymen have never experienced this type of storm, much less have a building code to prepare. Therefore, lots of damage has occurred to homes by losing a roof or the entire house went down.
Tuesday evening, 12 organizations in San Pedro Town united to form the San Pedro Hurricane Relief Fund. At the request of Honorable Manuel Heredia, we waited to hear back from his Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to find out what was needed for supplies. He was at the evening meeting as well and told us that there are ample supplies of food, clothing and water. What is most needed is BUILDING SUPPLIES for the repair of homes. Our group decided to have a radiothon on Wednesday for the collection of cash and will call the mainland for the best prices to make our donation stretch to maximum.
I’m calling on each of you to please come to town and make whatever cash donation you can. The collection center will be in front of Reef Radio Studios/St. Xavier Credit Union & Milo’s. A representative from RC School is coordinating the SP school system in order for each child to donate $1. If a pledge is given and you can’t get into town, a runner will come to your house to assist with pick up. If you are north of Grand Caribe Resort, Elito Arceo will be going by boat to collect your welcomed donation.
The money collected Wednesday and Thursday will be put in a special account from which a check will be written. On Friday, the Honorable has arranged boat transportation to the mainland and then bus transport to Belmopan where our donation will be presented to NEMO. They are coordinating the distribution efforts to the effected areas. This trip is open to anyone who would like to come.
If you are away from Belize but would like to help out, and since the bank account for donation isn’t available to me at this time, I ask you to please make your donation to the Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce, Atlantic Bank #100124198. All donations after Thursday will be welcomed and passed on as soon as possible.
If we can raise $50,000 for the people of Haiti, WE CAN DO IT FOR OUR OWN PEOPLE IN TIME OF NEED!
Thank You,
Jan Brown
Acting President 2010
