Es Muy Frío

belize beach bike ride

The wind is howling and it is freezing right now. I am sure some of you who are dealing with real cold, snow and slush are thinking cry me a river, at least you get to turn the heat up. I am wearing long sleeves, a jacket, jeans, socks,  bandanna on my head and I am still cold. I am sure I am not the only one on the island who is all layered up. If I was ever house building in Belize I would make sure to include a fireplace in the plans.

Decided on a long hot shower to help me warm up. Normally I do not like to waist water and try to make it quick , but today the steaming hot water washed away thoughts of time and warmed me up from the inside out. Today would be a good time to have some Etre Touchy gloves – great idea for cold weather tech lovers.

After warming up I was able to focus on breakfast. I made tacoboy and I grilled peanut butter and Belizean honey sandwiches for breakfast. I know not the best morning start for clean eating, but great cold weather food. My healthy choice on that was to leave the bacon out – saved it for dinner instead 🙂

They are 2 of the 4 Al’s Maureen, https://tacogirl.com/2011/06/tropic-air-travel-san-pedro-belize/ Still never found the other 2 and sadly our 4 Al’s were not long for this world, at least you got to meet them 🙂

That would have made a great picture. I saw a lot of strange things on bikes when we were there in June….so good to see the local people making the most of bicycles.

You know I just had to comment for at least a couple reasons today. One, of course, being the bike pictures you included in the post. The other, to do with that cold weather. Man, I sure hope it warms back up to normal for you guys soon as I know what cool island temperatures can feel like, for sure. It’s 72 in our Texas house right now….and I’m freezing as well.

Happy New Year, Taco Girl.

Happy New Year Darryl. Saw a crazy bike scene recently but did not have my camera so just took a mental picture instead – a guy riding his bike doubling his young son and balancing a kids bike off each handle bar. I am always amazed at the loads some people are able to handle on their bikes and not fall over.

If you had real food instead of tree bark and yerba mate tea and maringo leaves and a decent American breakfast with 3egg omelette, sasauge, hash browns and pancakes with maple syrup not only would you feel warmer but you would have better microbial resistance. Just sayin’ 🙂

Hi Laurie,
Happy New Year to you both. A howling wind to me, is around 25 knots, with blinding snow. A true Nor’easter!!! Our high to-day was 18F with 15mph wind, the equivalent of about – 4F!!! The golfers will be out this weekend, as the forecast is mid 40s on the weekend. Glad to see that you are getting the hang of the Powershot. Pix are super. Have you tried any more night shots? Keep up with the good work and the streaming vids. Love them.
Alan S.

Happy new Year to you too Alan. Not sure how many knots we had but the mangroves in the vacant lot beside us were sure blowing stronglt towards the south. Thanks re powershot, not tried more night shots, as of late been early to bed catching up on rest. Glad you like streaming videos.

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s... always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. There is so much information it's amazing! Thank you Laurie!!!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and... local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do... what everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
