Ironically Whimsical, Clearly Inspired

BAHIA fest

BAHIA fest recently took place at Caribbean Villas Hotel. This chic evening fashion show was organized by Magazine Mujer Total Chetumal; with assistance from Zuzana Marosova and Barbara Brown. Original designs were showcased by Mexico Designers: Maria Del Pilar Lopez, Guillermo Perez Alayon and Martin Lopez. Part of the proceeds from the event went to benefit Ambergris Caye Camp Star Fish who also provided entertainment and help on raffles.

Sponsors for the event were many:  San Pedro Town Council, Minister Manuel Heredia, Tropic Air, Ocean Ferry, Caribbean Villas, Blue Tang Inn, Sandy Point Resorts, Melt Cafe, Boaz , Island Adventure, Polos, The Candle Garden, Barrier Reef, Spindrift Hotel, VIP Transfers, Reef Management, Coconut Cafe and Mmm Taste This.

The show was broken down into 3 segments where each designer’s collection was featured by Mexican and Belizean models.

La Maria by designer Maria Del Pilar Lopez

Maria Pilar’s line was inspired by iconic Mexican Culture with bold bright colors, Frida Kahlo and Day of the Dead inspired images. Her collection was artistic and whimsical, perfect for adding some classically inspired modern day fun to any wardrobe.

Madonna Tribute by Martin Lopez

Mario’s Madonna tribute line was right on point, well tailored, and fashionable with a modern twist. He transformed memorable Madonna song moments through the years into clearly inspired designs. At the end of the multi segment show, the models celebrated Madonna in true fashion a with dance party on stage.

Thank you Mujer Total and Barbara Brown for inviting tacogirl.com to be a part of show media. It was a wonderful experience, as was the model graduation event – Magazine Mujer Total comes to San Pedro. Thanks to Eduardo Brown for middle Madonna tribute bridal picture in featured image.

Models Input

I wanted to give you some behind the scenes input into the show and asked model and well known Island Artist Melody Wolfe (Belizean Melody Art Gallery) for her input on what it was like to participate in such a big show.

I have modeled before for camera, Belikin Calander, World Model Search, I’ve done some commercial shoots for resorts and lots of ads. Heck I’ve been an M.C. for pageants. However I had never walked the runway and it is one of the scariest yet most exciting things I have ever done! Your heart is racing a billion miles per hour and you literally have to scream or shake it off before you walk out on that stage!

So much goes on back stage, dresses flying off, hairdressers chasing people down, the hours of makeup, but it was all worth it and a lifetime experience. I really felt old modeling next to 15 years olds who could walk in heels 10x better than me but I also felt really young getting my hair and makeup done and wearing princess dresses! My favorite part of the whole thing was the end when we all walked out and danced and of course finally taking those stripper shoes off! I want to say thank you to my wonderful teacher Zuzana and friend Barbara, the designers and all the models who made my runway model experience so much fun!

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and... local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do... what everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
