Cocotal Inn

Tacos went AWOL

It is time to let the cat out of the bag… I really wasn’t editing pictures for the last 2 days as I said in Mondays gas prices in Belize post. Instead I kidnapped tacoboy Sunday afternoon and went AWOL 2.5 miles north to Cocotal Inn and Cabanas. We have so many Belize resorts to choose from and this little gem is close to home. After all the recent Belize Red Cross excitement, I figured we hard earned a break away in a Garden Cabana on the beach.

I was all set to be a bikini girl for 2 days unfortunately the Maya weather gods did not have the same plan for me and Chaac rained down upon us off and on the whole time we were there. Even though we stuck close to our cabana, I did check the guest book and saw lots of great recommendations for places to eat within walking distance, like Aji and White Sands.

Always one to try and have a plan B, I was very glad I had packed 2 coolers worth of food. Perfect for a Pawn Stars, American Pickers and snacking marathon. We were super cozy in our big comfy king sized bed. They even brought us an extra big soft blanket, and it matched my airline blanket. Boy does someone know the way to my heart 🙂

On our last day I decided to use the common area, to get a jump start on work and let tacoboy sleep in. I just made it there and it started pouring down again. Thankfully we both pack Ziploc bag for our computer and tech gadgets so nothing got wet on our way home.

Two days away at Cocotal Cabanas was exactly what we needed do decompress and I feel like we got a break from the hamster wheel for a bit. Cocotal Inn is not far just 2.5 miles north – a very quick water taxi ride and some cart companies will allow rentals that far north.

Ambergris Caye Travel tip: If you are staying up north and have time before your water taxi, stop on middle street and pick up a rotisserie chicken.

In spite of the rain I was able to get some pictures of the grounds, it is very lovely there and there are lots of beautiful plants to see including a greenhouse on site. If you are looking for where to stay in Belize, they are a great choice. Don’t forget to checkout Cocotal Belize Facebook page

Nice Beck, while sun would have been nice, I really enjoyed listening and watching the rain fall. Sounds like you had lot’s of sunshine fun while there. The Yellow Cababa is very cute, I feel like us getting the red and white one was a good sign tying in with the recent rejuvenation of a Belize Red Cross San Pedro Branch.

We just got back last week from spending a week in the yellow garden cabana. I love that place! Sorry you didn’t get sunny weather. We rode the bikes everyday, lounged in the hammocks, ate at Aji, AkBol, and the Palapa Bar, and enjoyed Mara. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

Lovely photos, Laurie! Glad you could get away, even though it was rainy. I enjoyed the downtime in the rain myself.

I love that place! Used to walk by it all the time when I lived up North. Sounds like something I could use right about now too, after moving and reorganizing my new digs, etc. You’re inspiring me! Glad you had fun 🙂
