Living on Ambergris Caye

Something People Rarely Do on Ambergris Caye

It is a known fact that Belikin beer drinkers and Travelers Rum lovers, visiting or living on Ambergris Caye often do not usually drink enough water. Or in my case, iced coffee often keeps me from the healthier hydration option.

Despite the importance of water, it is often the overlooked and people often reach for other liquids, such as coffee, sodas, juices, and alcoholic beverages. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 43 percent of adults drink less than four cups of water daily, which includes 7 percent of adults who drink no water at all.

I was recently asked by a Canadian friend (who owns a Belize beach house) to help him remember to drink more water. I started out with google and sending interesting water glass pictures. Doing so made me address not drinking enough myself – thanks for the inspiration to be healthier JC 🙂 Not long after, I was surfing the Play Store and I hit the perfect answer for both of us – a fun water reminder option.

Simple Solution

Water time app is the perfect solution right down to the smiling water drop. Anyone who knows me well enough knows my favorite facebook sticker pack (Happy-Go-Lucky) includes great smiling food emoji: bacon and eggs, taco, cupcake, to name a few I use a lot.

It is very easy.

  • Fill in basic stats to determine the daily amount.
  • Set reminder times and sleeping hours.
  • Choose glass size.
  • Observe reminders as best you can.

Free download – Water Time Pro: drink reminder in Google Play Store or Water Time: daily water tracker in iTunes.

How it Works

When you do not drink enough your emoji gets sad. No one wants an unhappy water drop looking back at them, or the feeling that comes with it – not treating your body well. Aside from all the benefits of proper hydration, making your water-droplet smile can make you happy because you consciously doing something good for your body.

I do not always hit 100% mark but I have definitely doubled my water intake. To give myself an edge I set my serving size at 7 oz and use my favorite Cadillac glass. Time to admit it, I am slightly spatially challenged, (which is why I do not drive carts often and boats only for a minute during daylight hours) I broke out the measuring cup to verify for this write up and my glass is really 10 0z. I double checked my math with a 17.6 oz water bottle and it was correct – thanks to Elevate brain training app for making me think outside the box and become more of a math ninja 😀

Other Options

The app also lets you mark coffee, tea, milk or juice, and quantities. For me, this app is about tracking good habits so I only use the juice one when I am drinking healthy smoothies and tend to skip the other two even though the app takes into account your choices.

No matter where you live if you do not drink enough water this app is for you.

Cons

I know some of you are wondering what cons if any the app has.

So far the only slight negative is more frequent trips to the bathroom. Ordinarily, that would not be so bad except when you are trying to sleep and wake up with a full bladder.

There are ads on the free version but so far they are not so much of a con to me especially when the ones for my favorite packaged Mexican junk food, chocolate cupcakes show up 😀

That was a great blog. I had no idea there are underwater caves on Ambergis Caye – much less in the Secret Beach area. I’m going to have to look into those (pun intended). Is the cave in the area in front of what is now Secret Paradise beach Bar? Or is it further north than that?
I also had no idea you can drive a cart north from Secret Beach. I now have a new exploratory mission when I get back to the island in April. 🙂

Not sure exactly where that one was shot Eric. We used to do gas share and potluck boating adventures. Traveling up the back side of the island around 2007. This post was one of my last ones in the area https://tacogirl.com/the-cave-beyond-secret-beach/ before the area got largely popular and developed business wise. You might see close to your property there and there is a good fence pic for a guide marker and of course the underwater cave.

Is the “Gilligan Island” picture in a cove almost exactly 1 mile north of Secret Beach? That peninsula of trees jutting out into the water looks very familiar. If it is where I think it is, you owe me “Beach Use Fees” for parking your boat on my land. LOL! Well…OK, you don’t really owe me money (you already knew that tho!)….I just saw an opportunity to brag because a picture of my lot made it into your blog!
