Last week at trivia I got talking with Surendra and he asked me if I was going to the big benefit concert Thursday night at Wet Willy’s. I dodged giving a direct answer and mentioned how Cheryl Bowen had sent me the info and I was going to blog it. He offered to send Karen’s Bio and said he would hook me up with tickets.
I have to admit I am not a huge country fan and prefer old school like Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. After getting Karen’s Bio from Surendra I got to thinking, does what I like? After all tickets are only $15 and Mama Vilma’s Family Home is a great cause. So I decided to rope Cowboy Doug, Leisa and tacoboy in for a date night and got us all tickets. Surendra even rode his bike hand delivered them to me at the pool bar and grill – how easy is that.
While we were sitting at the picnic table chatting he said that there was a recent post on Ambergris Caye message board, Karen Waldrup to perform benefit concert and how well known Memphis Blogger Carbunkle Trumpet mentioned he had caught her show last night and she killed it! San Pedro is in for a treat!
This is getting more promising by the minute.
When I got back to the Condo with the tickets Leisa also mentioned having seen that Carbunkle had enjoyed her show. [Are your ears ringing yet CT]
If you happen to be in San Pedro and looking for something fun to do tomorrow night come join us for a fun night raising money for an important cause, with singer-songwriter Karen Waldrup at Wet Willy’s.
Thursday, September 27 6:00 PM meet and greet followed by the concert from 7:00-10:00 PM.
Wet Willy’s Cantina will have their delicious $5 hamburgers along with other fun menu items along with a well-stocked bar of your favorite drinks AND Wet Willy’s will donate 10% of the bar gross to Mama Vilma’s.
You can check out Karen’s pictures and hear her music at the official Karen Waldrup website. I have to say after doing a Google image search to find a couple of pics for this post, she is pretty cute and I am starting to look forward to the show. I bet she has a kick @ss voice and I am predicting I will have a great time.
Bio for Country Music Touring Artist Karen Waldrup
Karen Waldrup is one of Nashville’s newest and brightest stars to burst on to the music scene. From her humble beginnings of hosting her own writers night within her first month living in Nashville, to releasing her second CD titled “With Love, Karen” within only one year, to appearing on Bravo channel television show “Platinum Hit” hosted by well known artist Jewel and American Idol veteran Kara DioGuardi, Karen has been quite the musical success story many can only dream about.
In fact, Karen was previously named one of GAC’s Top 25 songwriters. Her list of accomplishments in such a short time is impressive to say the least. Besides performing with big name acts such as Rodney Atkins at the 2009 “Salute To The Troops” concert in Fort Campbell featuring Carrie Underwood and Hank Williams Jr., she has opened for major stars Sara Evans & Terri Clark. She has performed all over the world at numerous events and has performed at many other popular venues all over the country from playing at LP Field in Nashville, to the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans. In 2010, she shot her latest music video titled “Bayou Baby”, which is currently in worldwide video rotation on The Country Network.
What sets Karen apart, is not only her love for the music she writes and sings, but the desire to be involved in charity work which includes performances for The Manifest Foundation, Heroes In The Zone Benefit, and the Golf Tournament Benefit Of Leukemia Lymphoma Society. She truly cares for others and has done several events involving organizations dedicated to helping others less fortunate. Throughout 2011, she toured all over the world and wrapped the year with a 27 city tour of the southeast and a 7 city tour of Colorado and Utah. Karen prides herself on being a female touring artist.
2012 continues to be a touring year for this artist. Her new album “The Beginning” is her 4th studio album released May 2012. Karen has spent the summer 2012 touring the US and sharing the new album. The sky is the limit for Karen Waldrup and her ambition and drive will turn her and her music into a household name.
