Recovering from a minor medical emergency and more 6 degrees

A few nights ago I noticed some strange marks on the back of my right leg, and worked it out that it could be 1 of 2 things, bug bites or some sort of rash/ hives. I took some benadryl, put some triple cream on and kept a close watch. By Thurs the marks looked worse, were getting very itchy and starting to spread which made me think it was a rash so I began my search to find out what was going on.

I walked to San Telmo pharmacy across from Marina’s store to check if the doctor was in and found they had new hours and were on extended lunch. Next stop was Poly Clinic where I got turned away for not having a passport or id to register me to see a doctor, even though I had gone there recently and paid $40 to have a tetanus shot after a dog bite.

I walked back to San Telmo only to find out there was no doctor there any longer and my regular pharmacy guy was no longer working there either. The woman I spoke to was very nice and her guess was it looked like poison oak type rash or bug bites. I decided best thing to do was get to Dr Dan in town, hitched a ride with Alex as far as Island Supermarket and walked the rest of the way. I also called Canadian nurse Jo Belize to get her opinion since she was in town.

Thankfully there was only one person in line ahead of me and they did not take long. I told him I had been around a sick kitten Tuesday after aquafit class and Dr Dan verified right away it was bug bites and that sometimes bites can keep appearing a day or 2 after the fact. He prescribed some pills and cream which cost me $6 for one week worth of pills, $12 for the anti inflammatory cream and cost of visit $30. Not bad to have some piece of mind and know thatĀ  the bites would be stopped in their tracks especially since I was planning to go for Cowboy’s pool bar and grill for spaghetti feed on Sunday and enjoy some pool time. Now I really needed to get away for some R&R not so sure about rockin a bikini at this point in time šŸ™‚

After I got home to rest and started my meds, Jo Belize called and she confirmed that sometimes bugs can get in your system and keep spreading, I did not ask for much more detail on that as I did not want to psyche myself out lol [Paul was away overnight in Mexico and I was on my own sorting my medical woes :)]

By Friday the meds hadĀ  kicked in fast and helped take the itch away, the cream definitely took the swelling down noticeably. I packed a couple of swimsuit options just in case and if not I have a nice dress to wear instead. After Leisa picked me up we headed out to drop something off at Banana Beach Resort office and meet Cowboy Doug before heading north.

Now onto the 6 degrees of separation part of my story.

Corry Mcdermott happened to be at Banana Beach and joined usĀ  for a drink, it was not long before he got to telling stories about his life and travels. Sure enough the conversation went from Belize to Montana and Corry got talking about how he went to an Auction school in Montana. Of Course Doug and Leisa both asked right away if it was Ellis Auctions run by Jack Ellis locatedĀ  not far from Billings and west of Roundup – it was. Leisa later told me that she was very close with the Ellis family growing up.

I will leave you with a few pics I took as we made our journey north to Grand Caribe.

Glad to know you’re recovering. Bug bites can he horrific. In Trinidad we went to Maracas Beach and I got attacked by sand flies. I scratched so much, they became infected and I had to go on antibiotics. I still have these ugly scars all over my legs.

Fine. But I am happy u saw a real MD and got some proper drugs instead of the usual pagan toxic cleanse ph tested voodoo that u do. šŸ™‚ I am sure Emily would agree.

lol Dr AL I have had flea bites in Canada before and they looked nothing like what I was experiencing. As for the rash/hives thought I also had a weird allergic reaction years back and no one could ever pinpoint what caused it but this looked more like that because of the way it was spreading after I was away from the sick Kitty house.

They were flea bites honey. Could have told you that for free. You should be fine unless you get Bubonic plague. And we can deal with that later. šŸ™‚
