Update in January 2020. This business is no longer at this location.
While the featured image above is of my new neighbors, thankfully it is not the noisy ones. You will see them below. The building is the new “French Kiss at Sunset” Restaurant.
Aside from a great view for sunset cocktails, they will be offering lunch eventually. At the
Here is a great aerial shot by Kelly L Jones. The restaurant is in mid left with a blue roof.
Weather Belize January
Interestingly enough, while I was working on this write-up yesterday, one of my readers Gregg wrote to ask about the rain. He lands today and was mildly concerned about his vacation.
I reassured him it is not the norm to be experiencing such wet weather. It is definitely well outside rainy season which runs from June to November. Although after the big rainy season of 2012 and much like the Sargasso situation, it is becoming more unpredictable as years pass. Much like worldwide weather in general.
Thankfully showers been coming more so at night the past couple of days. However, Sunday was a rainy day for sure. Monday also had a shorter faster shower in town too. Temperature-wise it is very pleasant 23°C or 73.4°F.
Stay Dry
If you are on vacation and find yourself experiencing a bit more rain than you would like, here are a few great spots you can go to stay dry. Soon the above mentioned french kiss will be a great addition to the dry list. El Divino – Located Banana Beach Resort south of town, El Divino is a great place to go for a nice meal and to stay dry. A nice dining room, bar, and even a sports lounge area with several TVs for your watching pleasure.
Lola’s Pub is another “completely covered” place that is great for indoor sports watching. The entire outside wall opens up but it faces west so usually doesn’t get rain coming inside.
Locations With a Sea View
Other places that are not completely closed in but you can stay within the center, away from the railings and still have plenty of room. Most of them have plastic “windows” they can pull down if the wind picks up. A few popular places are always a hit with both locals and travelers: Wayo’s Beach Bar, Palapa Bar and Grill, Blue Water Grill, and Crocs.
One more worth mentioning is Carlo and Ernie’s Runway Bar. They have a huge patio area that is completely covered. Their big screens are a great attraction for sports lovers. The view there is… the runway of course! 🙂
For indoor coffee shops, Lavish Habit, and Belize Chocolate Company are both in town.
Rainy Day Island Girls
Rainy days are a perfect time for us island girls to get house chores done. During the last daytime rain, I decided to do some lingerie Feng Shui (closet cleaning). My wardrobe has gotten a little unruly. I needed to pare down of things I have not worn in a long time and get them to the charity dress rack at CG Esthetic with proceeds going to the kitchen at Hope Haven Shelter.
My Noisy Neighbors
I will leave you with a few pictures around town and of my noisy neighbors. The roosters go off around the clock. It has become a long-standing running joke at my place.
Good looking bird but a noisy mofo. Apartment rentals on Ambergris Caye can have some interesting pros and cons.
Of course, in addition to the weather, many of you are wanting to know about the state of
These next two pics I am adding for my friend Pirate Girl aka Debbie’s Kitchen. She always enjoyed watching simple commerce and productivity on the island. We often enjoyed sitting at the barge docks to see all the action.
Thankfully there was not a puddle of melted ice happening below. I saw the ice cart a few times around town that day. I chose this pic as a reminder to watch out for our crazy traffic when walking around town. Our roads are not really wide enough to support the growth that has happened over the years.
Thanks for the compliment Allene. We are stressed to the limit and all further growth should be suspended till the environment gets cleaned and all waters test at an acceptable level. All infrastructure needs to be done properly as well. Bottomless septic tanks in low lying areas are not acceptable.

I always love to see your pictures! You’re always talking about the growth of SMA, due to some issues the past 5 years I haven’t been able to get back down. Can you tell us more about just HOW MUCH growth there has been done in some pictures? I am really worried that it will not be the quaint place we were looking for still. I’m starting to look for someplace still a little quaint. I left Cozumel for that reason, never been back. I LOVE the fact you have been able to keep the cruise ships out. OMG so many people on then it looks like cattle coming thru the chutes!
