tropical destination wedding belize

You may have read my post on Facebook the other day asking you to please cast your vote on Unbelizeable Weddings-and Honeymoons 2012 Belize Weddings Facebook page and help one happy couple win a special place at the Maya Marriage of Many. The lucky pair, along with 35 other couples and 218 of their closest peeps will enjoy a spectacular 2012 destination wedding celebration in Belize.

What I did not mention is that they are still looking for the perfect couple and accepting more entries. You and your significant other still have a chance to enter and win your place at a breathtaking ceremony on the steps of an ancient Maya Palace at the 3200-year-old Mayan City of Cahal Pech on 12/12/12.

I often facebook contests with Belize prizes and can honestly say this romantically adventurous Maya ruin wedding definitely tops the chart for prizes. Now that I have some of your wheels turning, get your pen and paper and start brainstorming why there is a Maya Palace step with your names on it for the fabulous 2012 Maya Marriage of Many party. If you are in it to win it visit the 2012 Weddings Belize website for Facebook contest tips.

For those of you who are already married or not quite ready to take the plunge, you can still book yourself in on the guestlist 🙂 Please put your thinking caps on and pass this info along to any couples you know who are destined to tie the knot in a spectacular way. Thanks for helping find the dynamic duo who is meant to win.

Read below to learn a bit more about about the Maya Marriage of Many presented by Lara Goldman of Romantic Travel Belize in conjunction with luxury wedding planner Lisa Light of Lisa Light Destinations, and celebrity photographer Terry Gruber.

Does 2012 Signal the End of Time? Belizeans Say No

Maya Descendants Believe End of Calendar Brings New Beginnings

December 21, 2011 (San Pedro, Belize) – Only 365 days remain until the end of the 5126-year-old Mayan calendar next year, and the beliefs of many will be tested as time ticks down in 2012. On December 21, 2012, the world as we know it will end – or so it’s thought by those who believe next year’s end to the 5126-year-old Mayan calendar signals the end of time. However, Maya descendants in Belize, the epicenter of the ancient Mayan world, reject popular doomsday scenarios, and instead see the calendar’s end as a joyous time of spiritual rebirth and new beginnings.

In honor of this historic moment, Belize is hosting the “Maya Marriage of Many,” scheduled for the last of the alliteration dates on 12/12/12. There are thirty-six available slots for couples, along with 218 of their closest friends and family, to take part in an exclusive and unique wedding celebration in Belize, staged on the steps of an ancient Maya Palace at the 3200-year-old Mayan City of Cahal Pech. This will be the first and only time a mass marriage will be permitted to take place on the ruins as each couple’s love story is forever woven in the fabric of Mayan culture and tradition.

“As the home of the Western Hemisphere’s largest barrier reef and majestic mountains dotted with Maya sites, Belize is a culturally rich destination wedding location for those looking to celebrate their love and good fortune in a truly epic way,” says to Lara Goldman, a destination management consultant and owner and founder of Romantic Travel Belize. “And, since this is the only place in the Yucatan where you can get married on the Maya Palace itself (dating back to 1200 BC), guests will experience something extraordinarily different.”

In celebration of this unique ceremony, 2012 Weddings Belize is holding a Facebook essay contest for a chance to win one slot in the coveted destination wedding at the “Maya Marriage of Many”. The grand-prize winner will be awarded with a luxurious wedding package valued at over $15,000, including an exotic wedding ceremony complete with honeymoon in Belize. The ceremony will be orchestrated by Lara Goldman of Romantic Travel Belize in conjunction with luxury wedding planner Lisa Light of Lisa Light Destinations and celebrity photographer Terry Gruber, among others.

To enter the contest, visit 2012 Weddings Belize facebook page. The contest will officially close on January 31, 2012 and the grand prize winner will be announced on February 14, 2012.

Here’s a sample entry:

There is a time and place for everything and I’m daring to dream. My fiance has chosen the date of our wedding as 12.12.12. The reason he gave me for this date was simple. He said it’s once in a lifetime and it’s as unique as we are. Furthermore, there are rumors that 12.12.12 could mark the end of life on earth as we know it. Even though I don’t buy into it, he asked me to (imagine for a moment) and acknowledge the romantic notion that he’d want to spend his last day on earth desiring to hear the words, “You may now kiss the bride”. I teased him. I said that perhaps he chose the day in hopes that he wouldn’t have to go through with it at all. After a shared laugh, I used a search engine to find out what others were saying about this date as a wedding. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I hadn’t appreciated his gesture the way I should have. I remembered back to all those unanswered dreams and longing for romance and my heart sank as I realized that I nearly let this one slip past me unnoticed and unappreciated. So here I am. Humbled by the thought that I could participate in something so rare with him. Driven by the desire to return the romantic gesture that he gave to me. Fumbling awkwardly with the words to say, but daring to dream. Please help me to do that. Please choose us to be a part of this event.

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice... to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. There is so much information it's amazing! Thank you Laurie!!!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local... information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do what... everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
