Afternoon Lobsters Crawl Event
Yesterday was the last call for Lobster Crawl and my friend Denise was looking for someone to hit the two events with.
We started out in the afternoon at the Palapa Bar and Grill to hear Roy Hale sing and catch up with a few friends we knew would be there. As it turned out we also got an unexpected surprise Coconut Leo time. We enjoyed hearing tales of his recent rockstar moment when he was invited to Mexico and got the royal treatment. Of course we clowned around and snapped a few pics too cause everyone loves seeing Leo.
Palapa is always a great place to catch events, there is lots of room and great people watching. This was the second time I had heard Roy play there and knew he was worth seeing again. It was fun seeing people outside floating in the tubes and diving off the floating dock while enjoying the show. Perfect island-style way to spend a Friday afternoon.
As for the other main reason many people were attending the event, Palapa Bar Lobster Crawl Specials were a hand-picked tail, or a whole lobster, lobster roll, lobster kabob, lobster cocktail and the signature drink for the event was the red lobster.
Evening Lobster Crawl Event
Annual lobsterfesters Terri and Tyler had given us advance warning to get there early and they were right on the money with that advice. We showed up a good hour early to the event and it was already packed. I lost track of how many friends said this was the most packed Lobster Crawl event yet. I was not surprised, the Truck Stop crew know how to entertain always draw a full house. This time it was a Belize version of “The Price is Right”.
It was a toss-up between the savin rock lobster sliders and the cold New England lobster roll but the sliders won. There we also many choices for non-crustation loving folks such as popcorn shrimp, pork belly soft tacos and a variety of hard-shelled tacos. Of course, I had to finish off with Cool Cone and some sea salt caramel ice cream. This was one of the rare times I opted not to get a waffle cone but I did not want to tip my balance to overfull. For being miniature, a couple of lobster sliders were very filling.
The best part of this event was that I knew a few people at that one and was able to give my friend Denise an assist for the correct pricing at the silent auction on the snorkel masks which ended up leading her to go for the win on a sunset cruise for two on YOLO courtesy of Island Dream Tours. Our other friend Karen B made sure she had enough rubber chickens for the 3 of us to cause a commotion and costumed up Denise in hopes of her getting on stage.
Terri also won a few prizes and she gave me her Nike backpack and emoji beach blanket to donate to someone who could use them. Since I did not have anyone in mind off the top of my head, I asked Karen. Sure enough, she knew a boy who needed the backpack and (sadly) a 15-year-old mother for the beach blanket.
Aside from being happy for the folks I knew that entered and won, I was super stoked for the Showcase Showdown Winner. The lucky newlywed Garren and his girl walked away with a fantastic prize including Tropic Air flights from Ambergris Caye to Municipal, a Crystal car rental, a 2-night treehouse stay at Ian Andersons Caves Branch and tour, 1 night luxury cottage at Chaa Creek and a horse riding tour of Xunantanich Ruins by Hannah’s Stables. Now that is a happy ending to a vacation and a great reason to come back.
