I Went to Play Shake a Day

After doing my main weekend chores (laundry and answering emails), I decided to head north to Coco Loco’s Saturday Beach Party and play “shake a day” (an ongoing dice game) and listen to some live music. Daryl Kennedy plays at Coco Locos Beach Bash every Saturday. His style is classic rock and island music with his own flare. He has recorded a few albums of his own song and his guitars are handmade and very unique. Anything he gets paid for playing goes to his foundation which is how shake a day comes into play.

New owners of Coco Loco’s Charles and Tricia wanted to help Daryl’s foundation so they are doing a daily dice game. The pot starts at $100 BZD and will be progressive. You get five dice to roll and a shake costs $1. No matter what you role, you are already a winner for helping a great charity. However, if you are lucky at dice you do have a chance to win some good prizes.

  • 5 of a kind wins 50% of Pot (50% goes to Daryl’s Kids of Belize Foundation)
  • 4 of a kind wins a free drink
  • 3 of a kind win a chance to buy another shake for $1 BZD

Customers are only allowed one shake per day (unless they roll triplets). Watch Coco Loco’s Facebook page as they will be posting what the progressive pot is.

Fun Afternoon

None of the friends I had asked to join me were able to, which led to me wondering who I would meet to hang out with. I knew that I would see a few familiar faces and as soon as I entered I saw my friends Carole and Rob which was perfect. Carole got a chance to talk shop about the upcoming fundraiser she is hosting at CG Esthetic, her salon. Tricia came and chatted with us for a while too, then suddenly a bunch of us got distracted by nature. Dusk on the Caribbean Sea was absolutely gorgeous and the sky looked like a painting – see pics below.

Next came the reason I went in the first place, a round of shake a day. Both Carole and I played and this is one time I am happy to say I did not win. The Kids of Belize pot is now a little bit bigger. A few others joined into play and gladly gave up their dollars.

About Kids of Belize Foundation

Daryl Kennedy started Kids Of Belize as a way to give back through music. Since it’s inception, it has been growing leaps and bounds, making a positive impact on Ambergris Caye and beyond.

KOB has not only supplied hundreds of school books and desks to young students (342) but has expanded to Junior College Scholarships with two having already graduated, two in school a third starting in January. It has also provided some students with laptops. The foundation has also expanded countrywide by starting a library in Caye Caulker and in Cowpen, near San Juan in Stann Creek.

The Kids Of Belize has added monthly Sponsor a Child or Family Programs, geared towards keeping kids in school. Some families that have two or more children struggle to pay tuition, often this results in the youngest skipping a year or more. These new programs are specifically geared towards helping those families.

Picture Time

The sky was gorgeous that night as you will see below. The pics of the clouds with the small boat in the water and the coconut tree were facing east, (yes east) near sunset. The 80% chance of weekend rain I mentioned the other day in my Belize SIM Card info post finally hit around 9:00 pm but did not last long. Sunday was a different story, however. We got a good few hours in the morning and the rains came back again at night.
