Sundae on Sunday at DandE’s

San Pedro Belize beach pictures

Sunday night was the last night of my birthday week and I decided to end it in style with an ice cream party at DandE’s Frozen Custard. Nothing like enjoying tacos in the park and a sundae on Sunday. Paul had a concrete and a taster of mine. I picked coconut, Java Joe and strawberry – it came fully loaded with nuts, banana slices, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry on top. Eileen even added a candle and made everyone sing happy birthday.

I am back to eating clean [for the most part] and having a big bowl of watermelon before heading to the pool. I was hoping for a second iced coffee but time is passing so fast it will have to wait till after  aquafit class.

SAGA Humane Society would like to extend our genuine thanks to all the people who helped make our September Cook Off – Taste of Belize and Central America a resounding success. El Fogon, with our gracious hostess Susanna Eiley, held a block party in celebration for the Independence Day for Belize and all of Central America.

We had eight dishes entered representing the region, all enjoyable. After the vote was counted, we had three winners. 1st place Ipod Shuffle from SAGA went to Noemi Caballero with Yuca Con Chicharron from Honduras. 2nd Place was awarded to Lori Purdy for her Mexican Chicken Enchilada’s. She and a guest will be going to Lamanai courtesy of Searious Adventures. 3rd place Susanna Eiley with her Belizean Stew Chicken, Rice & Beans, and Salad. She will be enjoying a bottle of Port donated by Premium Wines and Spirits.

Our other entries were just as delicious and varied as Central America. Letty entered Carne Asada from Honduras. Bean’s Nicaraguan Style was Sarah Volca dish. Arroz con Gandules represented Panama, made by Faride Salinas. Arroz con Chocolate & Arroz con Leche was Patty’s for Guatemala. An Anonymous El Salvadorian entered Pupusas for El Salvador. We thank you all for your tasty entries.

A favorite of every Cook Off is our raffle with tickets sold by our young volunteers Alex and Mark. Lunch for two courtesy of My Secret Deli will be enjoyed by David from Caribbean Villas. Jamilla Janmohaned won a Pedicure courtesy Asian Garden Day Spa. Doug Cook won Snorkel Trip for two to Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley donated by Amigos del Mar.

DJ Habo kept the music going and crowd entertained all night, you are the best.  San Pedro Town Council, we are extremely grateful for allowing a Block Party and by helping deliver, set up and pick up the tents and tables. Sergio of Mousepad also made available for our use tables and chairs. Our dedicated volunteers helping were Katia Marin, Lori Purdy, Grant Crimmins, Ingrid Lima, Noemi Caballero, Faride Salinas, Carolina Gonzalez, The Staff of Pampered Paws and their helper, Morgan Cartwright. We truly appreciate all their hard work, enthusiasm and assistance.

It is similar to a dairy queen blizzard { I think] Mystery. Notice tacoboy holding it upside down and the spoon standing stiff.

Love Taco Girl Blog @LaurieNorton! I've been reading this blog since I started visiting Ambergris Caye in Belize almost... 10 years ago. It is filled with helpful up-to-date information and recommendations that I wouldn't necessarily find on my own. Laurie Norton's knowledge and extensive network on the island provides her with the ability to share perks/discounts/coupons with her readers, which come in handy year after year. Things on the island change daily - new businesses pop up constantly and LaurieNortonstays on top of these developments. Whenever I plan my return trip to the island, I always check her blog first - and I recommend you do the same. Trip Advisor ain't got nuttin' on Taco Girl!read more

Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s... always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. There is so much information it's amazing! Thank you Laurie!!!read more

I’m so pleased to see tacogirl's blog on Google. Laurie's blog is my official “go to” source for tourist and... local information on San Pedro. Of course, it’s always nice to see her guides on “what to do” in San Pedro, but I also appreciate her “insider” advice and human interest stories on what it’s like living as a local on the island. I especially enjoy her guest articles, providing a different perspective of all things San Pedro. Her tipping quide is a classic, and don’t forget her Tropic Air flight code and on-island discounts. You’re not up-to-date with what’s going on in San Pedro if you’re not regularly reading tacogirl's blog.read more

Do yourself a favor. Read this BEFORE any trip to San Pedro - Ambergris Caye or Belize in general. Not saying “do... what everyone else says”, but Laurie has frank and honest info which will make your stay in country a little more fun, a little more informative, and often at a great cost savings. Best thing: it’s unbiased, honest, and factual. Personal note: thank you for your personal tailored help in answering mine (and my wife’s) questions.read more
