This Just In…
After I posted the winter weather report events below, I received a poster from Jodie at Palapa Bar with upcoming events there as well. Some have already passed but from January 19 – 28 there are some great talent here on the island. She also mentioned the first baubles, bangles and beads jewelry making party was great. About 15 Girls showed up to make jewelry (anklets and bracelets). This will be an ongoing event the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Watch Palapa Bar Facebook Page to see what they will be making at the next one.
If you are a first timer and looking for places to go, travelers weighed in and one review says Palapa Bar is a “Great Place for a Cold Beer and Beautiful View!!!” Although I don’t drink beer anymore, I totally agree about the view. Entertaining water action with boats, occasional kite surfers and frequent marine life spottings. You can also go deluxe and have buckets of beer or whatever you are drinking delivered to you as you float in the tubes with your friends. Afterwards, dry off on the huge deck with your stylin printed microfiber beach towel.
As for the weather the last few days, yesterdays cold rain was a long wet patch that went through the night and on into most of the day, a rare occurrence on Ambergris. I enjoyed waking up often to the sound of rain on the zinc roofing at the chicken house next door – life of a city girl 😀 I know a few people that took advantage of the wet weather and made it a TV day as soon as they could. Today is still cool in the shade with a low of 23°C or 73.4°F but starting to warm in the sun with a high 25°C or 77°F.
Jerry Jeff Walker will be returning for his annual concerts at Fido’s. Of course the pickers (JJW fans that come down to jam) will be in town as well. All that fun begins on January 21 and runs for 2 weeks. Although JJW concerts are sold out sometimes you can score a last min laminant. Thanks to Mar Sue, here is the schedule of events for both weeks:

Although boat trips and sunset cruises are great almost anytime, it’s a little chilly for “in water” activities like diving and snorkeling even for those coming from a colder climate. With the temperatures since the beginning of the new year hovering around 77.5°F – 59°F or 25.3°C – 15°C the water may be okay, but the air is definitely nippy, especially today with a strong north wind blowing. Here are some great cool weather activities on Ambergris Caye. Click on the bold blue text for more details.
January 19 to 21 – Music Festival
The Dive Bar Belize is hosting a Music Festival in celebration of (owner) Doug’s Birthday. Noon start this coming Friday and running each of the three days until 10:00 PM. Featuring performances by The Gasoline Lollipops from Boulder, Colorado, USA. Other musicians playing: with Dennis C. Wolfe II and reggae band, Chris Guida, John Shelly, Tres Amigos, and Panerrifix Steel Band.
Additional reasons to attend: seafood specials and cocktails, Jello shots, a bucket of beer specials, local rum deals, and as always complimentary paddle board and kayaks.
January 20 – The Amazing Race: San Pedro Edition, Pt. 2
Have you ever wanted to be on the “Amazing Race” TV show? Now is your chance, it is happening this coming Saturday from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at The Truck Stop. This is a great Island version of the popular show where you’ll race between stops, decipher cryptic clues, and complete fun challenges, for a chance to win a cash grand prize. Advance sign up needed as there are only so many teams.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays – Karaoke
Although I am not a huge fan, this one is worth mentioning as so many people love it, especially when on vacation. From 7:00 PM- 11:00 PM; Melt Cafe Bar and Grill. Join Kenny or DJ Red (Rashida) and sing your heart out. This one is a reoccurring event, and kind of a “three in one” as it runs 3 nights per week. If you’re too shy or afraid (or just too busy) to try it when at home, karaoke is always something fun to do while traveling, because “what happens at karaoke, stays at karaoke” unless of course you somehow make it on Facebook live 🙂
