One of the reasons I love living in Belize; because it sometimes brings an invite for a Tuesday birthday sailing trip on a catamaran with old friends, and a chance to meeting some new people. I started with a very an early morning as I had to meet Cowboy Doug by 7:00am at Reef Radio and TV as we were doing the morning show with Eiden Salazar to promote 2012 Lobsterfest, Lobstermainia Pool party and Pedro’s Inn Liberty Children’s Home fundraiser. At first the sky was looking ok and I thought we were in the clear and then the rain hit. Luckily it did not last long and only came back once more before our sailing adventure then we were in the clear for the day.
One of the best things about doing a Caye Caulker day sail with 3 other bloggers is that you know there will be lots of great pictures to look at afterward. Emily and Bear were super fast in getting theirs up so that is the first link-back I will do – A lovely day on the Lady Leslie by Emily and Bear, Be Belize blog. CJ and Jana is now up by Island Life by Invest in Belize. Direct link from Taking Belize to come when they get theirs up, I know Debra got some great underwater shots, can’t wait to see them.
I think one of the highlights of the trip aside from seeing Jana and CJ so happy for their birthday celebration was seeing fresh snorkelers come out of the water. They were blown away by having a personal Nat Geo moment at Hol Chan Marine reserve and it was super cool to see the excitement through the eyes of first timers.
As always the crew of the Lady Leslie made the trip one to remember. Martin Jody and Ricky kept our glasses full, served lots of delicious food, made us laugh and kept everyone safe in the water. They make a great drink called the Horny Monkey, it is a hybrid of rum punch and panti rippa. The bar did not open till after the second snorkel stop which I think is totally smart having been rum punched on catamarans before.
Hol Chan was our first and longer snorkel stop, a few of us myself included did not go in the water. We did see a turtle and a big grouper from the boat and got some good reports of all the cool fish the snorkelers saw. Next was a shorter stop at Shark Ray Alley where we saw lots of nurse sharks and horse eyed jacks.. FYI Hol Chan Marine is now charging residents and Belizeans not born in Belize the $10.00 park fee now.
After that we headed to Caye Caulker for a delicious lunch at Wish Willy’s. Jana and CJ had it all prearranged and they had a long table waiting for us with lots of rum punch. For lunch we got served a delicious plate with Lobster tail, a Shrimp Skewer, a chicken leg, veggies and salad. The weather was just as nice on Caye Caulker only slightly warmer once we were off the beach.
What a perfect day, thanks so much to Jana and CJ for organizing it and inviting us all to come and celebrate your birthdays.
I agree Emily interesting to see pics of the same trip through each others eyes. It was such a great day, so glad the rain held off. Thanks again Jana and CJ.
Thanks for the shout-out, Laurie! You got some nice shots. Interesting to see everyone’s different photos of the same event. It really was a great day.
