The information has been going around FB on who is closed for the low season which is totally useful, however, I decided it was just as important for you to know more of who’s open all season 2019 on Ambergris Caye making it easier for meal planning. A Few Caribbean Sea and Lagoon Pictures
Rather than decide who to feature in pictures, I decided not to and give you some nice water shots instead.
I love how glassy the water can be sometimes.
But not so much when it is hot and glassy on the road like it was today when the lagoon spilled out well onto the road.
Weatherwise, we have had more than our fair share of strong winds this summer which makes it rough on some water activities like sailing and kiteboarding. For safety reasons, the Sailing Center was not able to send people out a good portion of the summer.
The past two days it has been so strong that we can smell the sugar cane fields burning all the way from Orange Walk because the wind has shifted and is coming from the north. This morning it was a different smell just regular smoke. Our water fitness teacher Eileen said there was a fire in Belize near the city dump. Thankfully it was not stinky smoke. I much prefer the sweet burnt caramel smell of the cane fields.
You can see the strong reef action in my Tropic air flight pic below. Thank you for being one of many using tacogirl flight code (for a cause) – horizon when booking online. You are helping the Belize Cancer Center and BWG’s cause Hope Haven Shelter greatly.
This is a golden oldy just like the two in the picture, my friend’s dog Molly and the “Flat Stanley” version of well-known blogger Carbunkle Trumpet now based in NYC. I brought him along on our camping trip up north in 2009. We brought Molly as our alarm system. Thanks again to Seaduced by Belize for making this amazing adventure possible, and our friends Rick and Coleen. They lived close enough to come visit our camp for dinner at dusk and we were lucky enough to get invited for deluxe iced coffee and bocce the next morning.
Another one from the way back machine, town pier before it got taken over by the water taxi. It was nice when it was not a commercial and daily transportation center. I know you cannot stop change, but we are still changing too fast and too recklessly. We need to fix what is broken first before we keep growing. Our ecosystem is highly contaminated in more than one area.
The new lagoonside photo-op sign near the International Water taxi just got finished with a couple of swings. MInd yourself when swinging though, the sign is on the median strip and so it would be very easy to swing too close to traffic on either side if you were going full out.
I added a 2009 rainy season pics as we need some more. Got a bit the other night however in light of Hurricane season, we have all been praying for more rain. Maybe not quite as much as below, just enough to cool the environment down and keep storms at bay.
Last one a sunset sky as that is a fitting way to finish my water pictures. Peaceful and electric. Have a safe and happy weekend everyone and thanks for tuning into to tacogirl blog.
hi Tacogirl,
Maybe a bit off track, but I was in Yucatan a few months ago and found a cigarette I really enjoyed.
They are available in Belize. Can you help me find a store that carries them?
I can send you a picture of the box if you email me back.
Thank you,
Kel
Thanks for the update. Love the new layout of your website. The pull-downs make it easy to move from one page to another. Looking forward to trying some of the new places on the island.
A few of those places are on my list two to contact Kim as well as a few other north locations.
Thanks for the list! Would love more of the places north of the bridge to be listed – living 8 miles north, the farther north the better. 🙂
My knowledge (and I use the term “knowledge” loosely 🙂 ) of places up here open are –
I see Bernie’s Back listed their low season hours.

Thanks for the info and the compliment Vic.
I will be sure and add you on my part two list along with the special event info you just gave me in messenger.
Hi Laurie, I was in the UK when you sent out requests for who is open or closed during the slow season. I did reply but perhaps you didn’t get it. So here is the update for Bernie’s Back Bar & Restaurant:
We have decided to stay open during September and October but reduce the hours/days. This provides a realistic level of service for our guests – especially the regulars who love our Karaoke but also allows some additional time off for our staff prior to going full tilt as we head into High Season.
With immediate effect, we are open from 12 noon through to midnight on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday with Karaoke continuing to be provided on Wed/Sat evenings and live music on Sunday evening.
We will be closed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday and take advantage of those days for any maintenance.
Thank you for all of your good work keeping locals and visitors alike updated.
Best regards, Vic
Moring Lorraine. Glad you liked the list, part two in process. Just email me more details on the time frame, budget, and amenities you are looking for -tacogirlbelize@gmail.com
