Cost for Bloodwork on Ambergris Caye Belize

For those of you who are considering moving to a different country – here is a small glimpse into the experience of health care and what it costs to see a doctor here. While it is important to be healthy sometimes you need to get checked out. There are some good doctors here San Pedro Belize – the price will vary depending on who you go and see and and what you need to have done.

I went to get my blood work done this morning. Dr Lerida was great barely felt the needle going in. I do not remember all the tests she said they would do but they are checking lipids or something like that and cholesterol among other things to see if she can figure out why my blood pressure is high and what is making me feel dizzy. She also checked my blood sugar and said it was normal. Total cost for the visit supplies used and lab costs $795.75 bzd – add an extra 4% if you plan to pay by credit card at this particular doctor. Here is a bit further break down – medical service $100- laboratory $610 – supplies used $83.75. No idea how that price compares to having blood work done in the states or elsewhere in the world but in Canada OHIP would have covered this. Can’t wait to get back to the pool and get on with being healthy.

    Here in the US if you don’t have insurance it probably would have cost more than that.
    I’m self-employed and my insurance runs a little over 200.00/month. And I only use it once a year when I go for my female check-up. My deductible is 11,500. Yes, you read that right.
    I’d rather pay cash for medical services in Belize any day.
