4 Great Cinco de Mayo Parties
As usual too many great parties at once. If you are a smart planner and have wheels or are good at hitching rides, you could make them all. Aside from being a good planner, you also need to be able to stick to a schedule haha. It is all to easy to get waylayed somewhere – you never know who you will meet.
Wayo’s Beach Bar
Cinco De Wayo Grand Opening Party– 10:00 am – 11:30 pm.
The long-awaited moment is finally here, celebrate and experience making memories at the new Wayo’s over-the-water beach bar. Meet the team and check out the fresh food menu.
Crazy Canucks
Put on your Cino De Mayo sombreros or ponchos and dance and drink the night away. Tequila and margarita specials all day. DJ spins at 4:00 pm and the night will include Fun party favors and a Piñata filled with special surprises. Knowing Rob and Krista that could mean anything. So get creative and get to Canucks for some Cinco celebrations.
The Dive Bar
Start your party early and with food – enjoy a Mexican cuisine special 11:00 am onward. Later on live Cinco music with Javier El Mariachi from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Dive Bar chef will be cooking outdoors and of course, there will be cocktails to complement each dish. Head on over and celebrate Cinco de Mayo 2018 Mariachi style.
Coco’s Loco Beach Bar
Cinco de Drinko starts at 12:00 noon.This is your pre-party for Cinco de Mayo! There will be live music from the island’s own San Pedro Slim. Iland Tung will be serving up a special Latino menu featuring: guacamole n chips, ceviche, and tequila lime wings, hard shell tacos, fajitas, tostadas, enchiladas, nachos, and Mexican burritos served up with Mexican rice and elotes.Drink Specials – Beergarita, Michelada or Fiesta Punch for $10.
Beach Clean Up
May 5th Boca Del Rio 6:00 am. Hosted by San Pedro Town Council.
If you want to be of service to our wonderful island, please consider joining the next town council beach clean-up day. There have been some amazing developments in the way of recycling but we still need to join forces and help minimize our island trash issue.
Reef Week
May 7th – 13th Celebrate the biggest attraction in Belize – the beautiful Barrier Reef. Our reef has given so many of us countless hours of pleasure, now it’s time for us to give back to our reef and find out how we can respect our precious gift more so. Mother’s Day Extravaganza 2018
May 12 Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sports Complex 8:00 pm, tickets $20.00.
This year’s line up includes Yaka’s Elite Dancers, Mérida’s popular comedian, Nani Namu, and Cayo’s Ismael Chacon as El Buki. The event includes a complimentary gift, a celebratory drink, gourmet dinner, and dessert.
Crooked Tree Cashew Festival
May 11th – 13th Crooked Tree Village. This annual celebration is in honor of the harvesting of the cashew fruit and seed. There is live punta music, cashew wine, freshly roasted cashew seeds, plenty of food and many folklore stories.
Annual Cancer Walk
May 12th 5:00 am departure from Xaibel Service Station to the new office location on Ecumenical Drive. Pick up starts at 4:30 am. Watch Dangriga Cancer Society Facebook page for updates.
Chocolate Festival of Belize
May 18th – 20th 10:00 pm This year’s Chocolate Festival kicks off on May 18 with a grand dance featuring the X-BAND at the Punta Gorda Civic Center. This is a great event to truly experience the great chocolate Belize has to offer. Event sponsored By BTIA Toledo and the Punta Gorda Town Council
Hands Across The Sand
May 19th Central Park San Pedro 12:00 noon
Join fellow Belizeans in silent solidarity in saying yes to renewable energy. Hold hands in celebration of Belize’s leadership in passing legislation that manifests a moratorium on offshore oil. See other locations on the (April 26th post) Oceana Belize Facebook page.
2nd Annual Masquerade Gala
May 19th Mahogany Bay Village 6:00 pm
This will be a fun-filled evening playing your favorite table games such craps, blackjack, and roulette. Great prizes will be awarded for top chip holders. Funds raised will benefit Hope Haven, Shine, Raise Me Up, The Literacy Program, Kids Club, and the Food Bank. There will be a Silent Auction benefiting ACES Crocodile Sanctuary!
Tickets can be purchased at Sandbar, Hope Haven, Mahogany Bay Village or Marbucks. Tickets are $90 BZD and include chips, food, and entertainment. Wear your best Island formal and remember, it’s a masquerade so don’t forget a mask.
May 21st – Sovereign’s Day Celebrated nationwide as the Queen’s birthday. In the past, National Sports Council held horse races in Belize City at the National Stadium and in Orange Walk Town at the People’s Stadium. Cycle races are held between Cayo and Belmopan. There’s nothing on-line as of right now, but watch Facebook a little later in the month.
Lagoon-Reef Eco Challenge
May 26th – 27th 6:00 am
Two-person teams will travel 42 miles in the two-day kayak race. The race starts on the west side of Ambergris Caye, goes up through the many lagoons of the northern part of the island to the Bacalar Chico channel and to Robles Point on the east side of the island. Teams will camp overnight, and continue racing again at 6:00 am the next day. Central Park in San Pedro Town is the finish line and it is always an exciting time to see the kayakers take those final strokes pushing to the finish line.
Applications for the 2018 race are now available at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve Office or at the Seaduced by Belize office.

- Coconut Festival Caye Caulker. Food, beverages, crafts. Parade with prizes for floats.
- Toledo Festival of Arts – Week-long festival in which school children depict various ethnic groups in the district through plays, music, dance, arts, and crafts.
- Stann Creek and Cayo Festival of Arts
- International Festival of culture. Celebrated on the first weekend of May.
