Halloween Party History and Four 2023 Options – a Current Ambergris Caye Nightlife Listiclee

Halloween for some adults is a magical, wondrous, fun time, and is generally filled with a winning combination of nostalgia, creativity and excitement. I have always enjoyed the freedom to be anything or anyone on Halloween and I love seeing how people choose to express themselves. It was a happy surprise after moving to Ambergris Caye, to learn what a big event Halloween is on the island.

Over the course of my 17 years Halloween party history in San Pedro, without a doubt, the annual Holiday Hotel Halloween Party has always been the main event. Back in the early days it was phenomenal – so satisfying to see the interesting and extravagant costumes and it’s still a great party worth going to. Although the other 3 I will cover are really worth attending as well.

Halloween Party History – 2022 Holiday Hotel Party

I have been attending this popular annual event since 2007 and it’s always a fun time. Usually I go with fiends (I mean friends), last year I decided to do the street party part by myself. Every year islanders have an unofficial gathering outside to watch the costumed party goers walk the orange carpet to enter the event.

The street is lined with people hanging out and enjoying the pre-game show. For many, it’s a family tradition to bring the kids out and watch the adult fun begin.

This year the party is happening tonight, Saturday the 29th, starting at 9:00 pm and entry cost is $15.00 BZD. Costume Contest is supposed to start around 10:00 pm.

Halloween Party History – Saga 2022 Spooktacular Halloween Fundraiser

Next party on my list of 4 is our popular annual Humane Society Halloween Fundraiser. This year the 18th Annual Spooktacular Pet Costume Contest will be held at Caribbean Villas Hotel on Sunday October 29th. (I know a few volunteers that are passing on the Holiday Hotel Party and a few that will be a bit sleepy from a late night.)

The event starts at 11:00 am and will have a DJ. All participating pets must be registered by 2:00pm to enter the costume contest. Registration fee is $10.00 BZD and that gives a chance at one of three prizes in the category entered.

Prizes will be awarded for the following best costumes:

• Scariest
• Most glam
• Look alike (pet and owner)
• Most creative

The pictures below are from last year’s event at Toast Seaside Boozery and Grill. SAGA does a great job of making their annual Spooktacular a fun family friendly event with apple bobbing and so much more.

As you can see from the Toast parking lot below, the event was well attended. I expect no different for this year at Caribbean Villa’s. And even though they have a good sized lot, if you do not get there early you may have to consider street parking.

This year’s party will have tasty food, delicious drinks, lively music, fun games, great raffles, and the always popular silent auctions. The funds raised from the 2023 Saga Spooktacular Halloween fundraiser will assist Saga in their mission to spay/neuter, vaccinate, and adopt out 123 animals.

You can always count on a good time at this next pair of parties that go hand in hand and fall on Halloween afternoon.

Halloween Party History – 2022 Witchy Shit Show

It will all start with the Witches parade and race. This interesting island event happens at 2:00 on Oct. 31st. For the general public you can wait on the parade route or at Overseas Bar and Grill.

The Witches golf cart parade will be about 10 min or so and it starts at a private home southwest near Casey’s Bar. Once they are lined up, about 20 carts will be parading up Back Street to the parking lot at Overseas bar where a short dance will be performed. Then the witches who are racing, will get ready to line up and everyone else will finish their drinks and head to the finish line at Wayo’s Beach Bar.

I took the pic below last year when my friends Staci, Shawman and I were waiting for the parade line up to happen.

According to organizer Terry Gallagher – “The lead cart will have Glinda the Good Witch of the north, all dressed in white, and her friend Alex (a guy) who is 6’5″ dressed as Maleficent standing in the back of the Polaris. It’s gonna be a fun thing to watch. Hopefully I will be able to get the carts going by 2pm, but hey, it’s Belize, and I’m wrangling cats.”

Halloween Party History – 2022 Wayo’s Halloween Party

Last but not least Shocktober 31st Halloween Party at Wayo’s.

Place your bets for the Witches water race by 3:00 pm. You can also participate in a silent auction, raffle draws, and a progressive jackpot.

For those feeling creative and competitive there will be an island style pine-o-lantern contest at 4:00 pm. Find a volunteer and purchase a limited, pre-cored pineapple. for a $10 donation. Best In Show will win a gift certificate.

At 7:00 pm more prizes will happen with the costume contest on the catwalk of Wayo’s deck. There will be great prizes for best: runway walk, couples costume, group costume, sexiest costume, and funniest costume.

Final raffle draws and progressive jackpot draw will be done just after costume contest winners are announced and the party will continue with DJ Alert.

2022 Shocktober 31st Halloween Party at Wayo’s was absolutely packed, thankfully we got there early enough to get a table.

Interestingly enough it was so packed that the Famous “Yellow Man” Don Tolman and his lovely wife ended up sharing our table.

If you have not done Halloween on Ambergris Caye, Belize before, consider putting it on your October to do list. It’s an opportunity to create a lasting memory by stepping into a magical, spooky, tropical, fantasy world for a while.
