Welcome 2010

I am in preparation mode for News Years. So far that involves cleaning house and doing laundry. Always good to start the new year off with a nice cozy clean bed to fall into after the party. Tonight we will be saying adios 2009 and welcome 2010 with a a Blue Moon – which is a second full moon in a month. From what I read in the Chicago Tribune when I looked it up – Blue moons come about because the solar and lunar calendars don’t match. Hopefully the skies will be clear so we can see it.

A few days ago I asked on facebook if anyone making new years resolutions? So far I have not made any – I tend not to limit myself to just new years for that kind of thing.

Here are the replies I got…

SC – There’s just something about “resolutions”… they tend to not get resolved. 🙂 More cardio and save money. 🙂 U?
RV – Mine is to stop eating so much frozen food.
DS – Gee, you must have jaws of steel or maybe you’re gonna thaw it before you eat it, hehe
EI – Shine the Light Bright! ~and catch some rays!
DB – He who breaks a resolution is a weakling; He who makes one is a fool. ~F.M. Knowles
RV – I tend to microwave it first (more flavor that way) but still not healthy.
KE – not me, I do not believe in them—I think we should set goals all year long and when we decide we want to achieve something waiting until Jan 1 and continuing the opposite behavior that prevents the goal prior to Jan 1 is counterproductive and procrastination.

Although the comment below was made separately, I thought it worth including.

MSS – A baby elephant was tied to a stake to keep it from wandering off. With all its might, it failed to pull out the stake. Years later & a ton heavier, the elephant continued to be held back by this same stake. Even though the elephant was much stronger now, it would not free itself from the memory of its past. It’s a ……NEW YEAR. Don’t let your past dictate your future. Break free of what has kept you from being YOU.

My take on the whole resolution thing is – while I do not think it is bad to set them, people need to be more realistic about the things they choose. I also think breaking resolutions down helps. Instead of completely cutting yourself off from something you like that you know is not good for you, or something you know you should be doing like getting fit but can never seem to make it stick – do it in smaller steps. If you fall down do not lay there helpless in a mud puddle, pick yourself up and keep on trucking.

Based on the comments I got – I decided to compare resolution versus goal meanings from dictionary.com.
Resolution – a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.
Goal – the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end.
Interestingly enough a quick check on thesaurus.com shows a few of the same words but neither made it on each others list.

Basically it all comes down to this – why wait till New Years to do something to make a change for the better? Whether you prefer the term goals or resolutions does not make much difference it is about what works for best you.

Pictures coming later.

Off to mop floors and do a bit of grocery shopping and hopefully catch a rest before tonight. Remember it’s it is Dicicell double and triple up day.
