Geotourism 2010 – Caye Caulker Ocean Academy

Hi “tacogirl”,  I’m writing to share some exciting news, and ask for your help this week. Could you please post the following info on your blog (and vote if you like our project)? I’ve attached an image you can use, as well as the publicity poster if you want to add more. Thanks 🙂 Here’s the details:

Caye Caulker Ocean Academy is a finalist in a prestigious international competition called Geotourism 2010: Places on the Edge: Saving Coastal and Freshwater Destinations. The theme is innovative tourism solutions that protect the environment and strengthen the heritage and livelihoods of local residents.

Ocean Academy was selected as one of the 12 finalists out of 250 entries from 54 countries. The three projects who get the most online votes before February 2nd win $5000 each. Support innovation in Belizean Education with your vote today!

1) Go to Changemakers.com

2) Click entry “Caye Caulker Ocean Academy”. Read about the school’s environmental and tourism education programs for island youth, and how we involve voluntourists.

3) Click “vote” in the upper right “Take Action” box. Follow instructions, and be sure to click the confirmation email for your vote to count.

4) Spread the word and encourage others to participate. The prize money will provide much-needed financial support for Ocean Academy programs like our aquatic tourism P.E., tourism elective class, marine biology apprenticeships with mangrove restoration and coral surveys, composting project, recycled arts and much more. The voting deadline is February 2nd at Changemakers.com.
