Gas Prices in Belize

Everyone  likes to know the price of things, in fact that is one of my pet peeves shopping here when stores do not have their stock priced. Since I often get reader emails asking about the cost of living in Belize and have been blogging that topic for a few years now,  I decided to do car gas price comparison.

The idea came when I was out for a joyride with Dick and Zac  as we stopped to gas up the golf cart. Currently we pay  $11.69 a gallon and was $60 to fill Zac’s tank. Tim said last time he filled his Polaris it was $70.

I asked a couple of my regular guest contributors Michele and Sharon to see what their pricing was like.

Regular gas is $11.40 at Texaco and $11.42 at Shell. Here’s a couple of pics of the Shell I went to today. Hope this helps!

Since Belize Mexico travel is a common thing Michele Kinnon of Life’s a Beach blog Playa Del Carmen, Mexico was happy to give me her input. Prices for gas are as follows Regular (Magna) 9.60  pesos [0.75 usd] per liter Premium 10.30 pesos [0.81isd]  per liter.

How does Belize Gas price compare to where you are?

Please note: I will be taking a couple of days off to catch up on picture editing have to go through a weeks worth of pictures I shot when Dick was here [that is easily in the hundreds], Helda and Robbie’s wedding photos and the Belize Coalition vote to stop off shore drilling in Belize images.

Cash Games
This week we’ll be spreading 1/2 us NL Hold’em cash games Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  The minimum buy-in is $50 USD and the maximum is $200 USD. Cash games start at 5pm on Sunday and 7pm the rest of the week. When you play cash, we buy the food and drinks and you qualify for the high hand giveaway.  A new high hand giveaway is coming so be sure to come and ask about the details.

Tournaments
Sunday – This week marks the return of our regular Sunday tournaments.  We start at 2pm with a $30 bz NL Hold’em Turbo Satellite. We are guaranteeing to pay out 1 seat but will pay 1 seat for every 5 entries.  The tournament then starts at 3pm where you will get 6000 in chips for your $110 bz buy-in and an additional $1500 for the optional $10 dealer bonus.  Both tournaments do not allow for rebuys or add-ons, but re-entry is allowed space permitting.  Snacks will be provided during the tournament and drinks may be purchased at the bar.

Thursday – Also this week we’re bringing back our hugely successful Tournament Thursday.  Starting at 7:00pm we’ll be spreading our $40 NL Hold’em Turbo Satellite with 1 seat paid for every 5 entries (one seat guaranteed).  Then at 8:30pm we’ll again be spreading our new Deep Stack tournament.  This tournament provides plenty of play for the money. For your $150 buy-in, you get 12500 chips.  The blinds go up more slowly in this tournament than in our regular Sunday event and the structure is modeled off of the hugely successful Friday Night tournaments at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas. Our last event had a huge prize pool and we sold out of seats.  Come early if you want in on this event.  And if you want to be sure to get in, remember that Satellite players are given first choice to buy into the tournament.  Again, snacks will be provided during the tournament and drinks may be purchased at the bar.

Special Events
Next week we have a couple special events that I wanted to make sure you were aware of.  On Sunday March 11th, we’re welcoming Jock home with a special bounty tournament.  More details will be shared in next week’s Poker Week newsletter, but for now just know that you need to be there.

Also Thursday night March 15th is our monthly Ladies Poker Night.  Since the Ladies seem to love their free food and drinks, we’ll again be spreading our 1/2 bz No Limit Hold’em cash game.  The game starts at 7pm but come at around 6:30 if you need to learn how to play or just want a refresher on the game.  Ladies Night is a fun and relaxed night to play and if you are new to the game, it’s a great way to learn cheaply and among friends.

I hope to see you all at Pedro’s this week.  I’m looking forward to it and I hope you are too.

Best Regards and Better Cards,
Jason

One other interesting tidbit is it costs about $170 bze ($85 usd) to fill up my Chevy Tracker here in San Ignacio, Belize. It used to cost me about $65 usd to fill up my Toyota 4Runner in the States (when I left in 2010).

Having said that, there are a lot of other things in Belize that are much, much cheaper than what I was paying in the States. Therefore, overall, even with these high gas prices, my cost of living in Belize is far lower than before.

    Thanks for posting, Laurie!
