She came to Belize for a wedding and stayed to volunteer

Hi, my name is Caroline. I came to Belize for a wedding, stayed to volunteer with Central Americas only manatee rehabilitation center (which also happens to have Belize's only monkey rehabilitation center) and now have come to San Pedro to raise funds to help pay for the increasing food costs for each manatee (2) and monkey (25). Each species is endangered (West Indian Manatee, Spider and Howler Monkeys. (I ...

Sea Spray

It is still dark outside, I can hear the wind and rain picking up. The latest tracking model shows us good by this afternoon. It already feels like we are in the clear as Ernesto was a very tame storm for us. Will be heading to what I assume will be the last Hurricane Ernesto meeting shortly and feeling very lucky I scored a ride as I am pretty sire cabs would be a slim to none option this morning with curf ...

Hurricane Ernesto makes landfall in Mexico, weakens to tropical storm

San Pedro is almost back to normal. Some businesses are still closed and I do not blame them for taking this golden opportunity to take some well deserved time off. It has been a cold wet day perfect for staying at home. Both tacoboy and I agreed if we did not have to go to work we could have easily slept in. Please keep in mind that my post below is late, I was blogging at 6:30 this morning from my phone w ...

Hurricane Ernesto

We have a NEMO meeting at 6:00am downtown which meant setting my alarm for 4:40 am - ugh. Managing to get a bit of work done and at least one iced coffee in me before I set out. I did not pre-order a cab so hoping I can find one or hitch a ride when I get to the main road. It is still pitch black out but I can hear the rain, wind and thunder picking up now. When I opened the door to let some fresh air in I ...

Ambergris Caye Weather Watch and the Island Committee

Tacoboy was checking NOOA this morning and said it looks like tropical depression 5 is heading our way. Currently it is still moving towards towards Puerto Rico, passing Jamaica Monday and Cuba on Tuesday. That is a long way off and anything is subject to change, but due to the path shown it is worth keeping an eye on. Not long after I started writing this post, I got an email Lily Bowman Director General f ...

Are we done yet?

I thought we were done with the rain as the weather seemed to have shifted yesterday but we ended up with more this morning - ugh. Thankfully it did not last long as I was invited on a birthday party boat ride aboard the Lady Leslie. We will head out do a snorkel stop and then sail to Caye Caulker for lunch. I am so ready to relax and enjoy the ride, been a hectic morning as I was up at 5:00am working and t ...

Rain rain go away

Welcome to Rainy Season in Belize, we have been getting more than our fare share of rain the past few days. It is unfortunate for those on vacation and those who are scheduled on the 2012 lobsterfest crawl events schedule. I texted Cowboy for a rain report will add it later if I get one, after the two weddings at Grand Caribe yesterday I am sure it is a slow moving morning up there. Update on Maureen and Tr ...

Shocking

tacoboy stopped at Super Buy South the other night while he was waiting for our breaded chicken fingers and fries from Sunny's. When he got home I started to help him unpack the groceries and saw a couple of shocking things in the bag along with the chocolate bars, chips and can of  chili mac he decided to add to our hurricane foods. It was not so much that the items themselves were shocking. more so the pr ...
