On the Blog Fiesta invite post housesitter left a comment and tagged me to write 25 random things about myself also been tagged for same a few times in facebook so here goes…

Capt Jeff was a one man fishing machine today and he caught the bulk fish with a bunch of mutton snapper and a couple of jack. We all enjoyed a delightful boat ride – always a fun time on Capt Abel’s boat. Afterward we stopped at Hungry Monkey for our subs and poems by Freddy Nunez.

Much harder to come up with 25 things than I expected – as you can see I am still leisurely filling it in. Had our first drive by shout out by LA and Klcman this afternoon. They were on their way into town to eat.

Fishing morning

The sun is coming up – I am slowly (very slow) getting ready to go fishing with Capt Jeff this morning.

We ended up at Celie’s Deli because Estels was closed. Jeff ordered us up bacon and egg sandwiches and coffee for breakfast and we ate it on the patio of the Holiday Hotel.

Fishing was quite exciting today – my first time ever catching trigger fish – they put up a fight.
It was also the first time Capt Jeff and I heard the dolphins breathing before we saw them. That was pretty incredible experience.

After fishing the first thing I did after putting the fish away in small packs was eat a nice fresh piece of Barracuda cooked in coconut oil. YUM.

Afternoon snack Mark and I shared veggie stir fry with soy protein and brag liquid soy

Miss Joy is about to cook up some Snook and Permit for dinner that she just scored of Albero (sp?) her fish guy today.

After dinner Miss Joy Mark and I sat on the downstairs veranda and chatted about Maya and Belizean culture. Mark told us what it was like living in the jungle and about all kinds of waterfalls and interesting things to see on the mainland.

Fishing with Peter Graniel

Capt Jeff, DCG, Paul and I had a nice breakfast at Estelle’s then went fishing with Peter Graniel. We had a great time caught 46 snappers, and I did take some pictures but unfortunately my camera is holding them hostage right now – will not let me turn it on to get them. I spent my nap time trying to get it to work but did not have much luck so far – fingers still crossed as camera was working a bit better last few days till we went on the boat salt air definitly having an effect.

If you see pics between now and tomorrow morning, you know I got it working.

Up before the Sun

One reason would be am up before the Sun is that Capt Jeff is in town – We are having a fishing day with Abel today.

Chatting Jo on coconut phone and getting ready, time moving a bit fast I can tell by the light in the sky I better bust a move have to call Capt Jeff at 5:45 am.

The water was smooth and our lines were tight. We could not ask for a better day on the water. Fished 3 spots with the first and third being the best – caught yellow tail, mutton and mangrove snapper. Jeff caught a jack and a mackerel – we had to throw the groupers back they were not quote old enough to keep.

Abel taught is that if your line is twisted and stops the reel from turning smoothly – take you hook and weight off let your line out when the boat is moving and it will straighten your line. Next time I see Capt Jeff I will have to ask him how well it worked.

What’s next

Was chatting Bobber in mini chat this morning and he said Life is what you make it. I replied back something about how I was figuring out what to make next.
It hit me as I was cleaning house – getting a bigger place has been on our minds lately and that is just want I am going to make next. I thought as I was cleaning about how I will get rid of stuff I do not need, organize, clean and physically prepare as if we have already found a place and are getting ready to move.

Capt Jeff just called, they are heading back from a successful morning of fishing with Abel Guerrero – dashing off to Mayan Princess dock to take a picture of a big Jack.

Man what a big Jack it took Capt Jeff about 20 minutes to reel it in. They also caught 3 mackerels and a whack of snapper. Colette and I hitched a ride back through town with Kra-z-k and left Maya and Jeff to watch Abel clean the fish. Back to a bit more cleaning myself before I have to get ready to meet Colomojo and her hubby to take them to the school.

It sure is a a hot one – will be nice to get to BC’s and catch some breeze.

Visit to the San Mateo and the school went well Colomojo and Tracy enjoyed learning about the school and meeting some of the kids. They got to see how useful their donations will be. While there we got to meet a nice group from the states.

Students and faculty from Gainesville State College in Georgia are visiting HC School and participating in a study abroad class entitled “Socio-cultural Perspectives on Diversity,” which aims to teach future teachers how to ensure that all students from all backgrounds are respected and educated in a loving environment.

All 20 students are education majors at Gainesville State College. The students are being led by three faculty members, Dr. Carlise Womack Wynne, Dr. Diane Cook, and Mrs. Valley Rogers. The three professors are working in collaboration with the teachers and staff at Holy Cross to allow GSC students to observe in classrooms and offer teacher training seminars for both GSC and Holy Cross participants. Workshops include Developmental Psychology, Active Learning, and Classroom Management. This is the first visit in what will hopefully be a long collaboration between Gainesville and Holy Cross.

Francis and Vernon oriented the students on Sunday evening with a tour of the school and community. The students from Georgia are so fortunate to be allowed to come and learn and work with the faculty and staff at Holy Cross. Students have been able to work in various faculty and staff roles at the school. Holy Cross was a gracious and welcoming host to our volunteers and the experience that GSC students gained while in Belize was priceless. Gainesville State could not have asked for a more practical and beneficial host school.

BC’s was fun as always – what could be better than making new friends on the beach. Met a few more message boarders boreas, ncrbrew, deadserious and their crews.

After BC’s the gang decided to head down the beach to the Playa Lounge for some cocktails and snacks. While there we spotted someone coming in with their catch – a big dorado. A bunch of us went over to check out the action.

Gone fishing

It is 5:30 am and we are getting ready to meet up with everyone at Estel’s for breakfast before we go fishing with Peter Graniel.

Fishing was great – caught loads of snapper. There were 6 of us fishing so we had 4 on at a time and did the catch 3 fish and pass your rod on rule. Today I practiced taking the fish off the hook – it can be a bit tricky as the fins are sharp.

When Peter G and Lionel started cleaning the fish, a nurse shark came around to have a bite to eat.

We are all going to meet up again later to enjoy fresh fish bbq at Dick and Carole’s.

Side note – rainy season is on the way so make sure to have your wet gear handy.

Capt Jeff rang me yesterday after our fishing trip and invited me out with him and Maya today – how exciting, of course I said yes so here I am at 5:43 getting ready to catch some more fish. We will meet up at Estel’s shortly and the boat will get us at 7 am.

DCG comes in today and Reaper’s big dinner at Blue water Grill is on for tonight – just prinitng some town crawl maps to have handy.

Hope you are well on your trip. Not sure if you are checking internet much but I felt to write and say hi – I know you will find it sometime soon.

Maya is not starving in fact she caught a big jack today as well as mackerel and snapper. It was quite amazing to watch her reeling jack in especially when there were dolphins in close by feeding. You now how it is here some days – nature sensory overload and today was one of them. I kept watching from Abel with the gaff, to Maya Jeff and her line then back to the dolphins again – it really was a sight to see.

Boarders dinner is tonight as well as fire show, lunar eclipse and karaoke – so lots more visual stimulus coming our way.

Fresh fish – yummy

Nothing like eating the fish you caught hours ago for lunch – I took some fillets and fried them up with coconut oil they were so tasty.

Went fishing with Capt Jeff on Clifford and Eric’s boat this morning. Getting bait was not an easy task because the water is murky but we managed to find some sardines by the mangroves and set off for some inshore trawling.

Today Capt Jeff was coaching me on timing and how to reel fast after hooking the fish with a sharp upward motion.

Capt Jeff quote of the day on making major decisions … Ask yourself is th juice worth the squeeze?

On a side note the other fishermen caught wahoo tuna and a big barracuda – Bill took Maya, Gail and Paul outside the reef with Dilzon. Sounded like an awesome time but with 7 foot waves I am so glad I went with Capt Jeff in the morning that was definitely more my speed.

Note to self… get more waterproof gear and make sure it is calmer waters when going outside the reef.

Living the Dream

Yesterday Paul and I noticed my rod was acting squeaky and not turning so smooth. I figured I better do something before we go out again today so I put a few drops of coconut oil inside the turning handle. I hope that does the trick – way too early to be dismantling it all.

That is my quick fix for some things – ever since I heard that coconut oil helps against rust and the coconut press machines do not rust where the oil gets on them I figured I would test that theory. In the past, it has helped me stop my bike chain from making a crunchy noise and given me a smoother ride.

No-one appears to be awake on the coconut phone this morning. I am feeling a bit tired I was dreaming a lot last night and sometimes that has an effect.

Off to meet Capt Jeff and Maya meet at Estelle’s for 6 am.

Fishing was great we caught about 50 fish today. At breakfast I learned from Maya how to take apart my reel so I can clean and oil it. Capt Jeff noticed I am getting the hang of what he has been teaching me. I saw a difference today compared to yesterday. I also learned to tell if it is a big fish on the line or just a smaller one nibbling. Watching Jeff is really cool he can usually tell what kind of fish is on his line. Today we caught mostly mutton snapper – yesterday was yellow tail.

Before Sunrise

It is 5:20 am – we have to meet Capt Jeff and Maya at 6 am at Ruby’s for breakfast – then it is off to fish with Abel Guerrero. Chatting with Bill now good thing he is an early riser. I told him being up so early while it is still dark out brings mild flash backs of Canadian winter – also reminds me of travel.

Time to grab our poles and get moving.

We caught 75 fish and all the while Capt Jeff kept us laughing and having fun – he is a great teacher and I learned a few new tricks for fishing and he helped me work on my wrist action and casting further. Bill was also helpful this morning in telling me to watch when Abel did my line that I would learn something new – and I did.

Will finish this later as I am off to Perk to meet Laura (Coldwell Banker) for some real Carnegie Deli New York Cheese cake – she has another one and told me to bring a fork.

Cheese cake was so yum – I need some couch time now it has been quite a full day and it’s only 2:30 pm.

Nothing like enjoying the fish you caught in morning for dinner – now that’s fresh.
