San Pedro Lobsterfest Block Party 2010

Just a quick note back dated from June 11th – 3 days before Joey and Crew Arrive. It feels like we are steamrolling fast towards the big block party. There is so much to do - as Tim Gun always tells the designers on Project Runway - “Make it Work” and I know somehow we will.

10:14am the big day is finally here. We are still up at Captain Morgans now and about to begin the rat race again as we have to get to Phoenix to check in – head back home for a few min then regroup at the block party. I sure hope we can schedule a nap in there somewhere before tonight.

Back home again thankfully and sorting out my decorating stuff to make sure I do not forget anything.

2pm filming at Pedro’s went well. Lots of people came out to meet Joey and join the fun. Soon as that was done we had to dash into town decorate booths and the OCW crew was filming the artists who had the big area under the big palapa in the park.

Block party was a big success. Loads of people – lots of lobster – no shortage of drinks and Supa G was great. Got to run off to breakfast at Changes in Latitudes then a well deserved potluck party on the Seaduced Catamaran.

Deep conversations

Last night at Pedro’s birthday was a night of deep conversations for me. Last thing I expected to happen especially after last years party where the main conversations I remember were with Maureen and Tracy about how we all needed another drink – laughing at big fake diamond rings that Maureen brought for lobsterfest and telling Pedro I was getting drunk for his birthday. A present which I paid dearly for till about 7pm the next day.

I would take bets there are a lot of derailed feeling people this morning – I lost count of how many times the bell was rung. Of course Jager was the birthday drink of choice and it was flowing in vast quantities. Forrest and I had a good laugh – I am one of the lucky few who has gained immunity and he has worked out a deal to take the hit with a rum shot instead.

This year I played it smart and stuck with yummy shrimp on rice – Gunther’s delicious chocolate cake and water. Way to much going on before lobsterfest to take myself out of the game. Right now my frame of mind is holding a slow steady pace even though it feels chaotic. I almost feel like I am watching a slow motion scene in a move because it feels so far away and yet time is passing so fast.

2010 San Pedro Lobsterfest will top the chart. We have so much cool stuff happening this year since we are extending the party for filming and starting at 11am. Yesterdays news from – the whole town was jazzed about Joey and Bob the Parrot’s arrival – from Quick silver Diane our handy custom mail delivery – messenger service and phone rental.

Internet is slow as potatoes this morning. I decided to add a gallery instead of loading pictures separately which is usually a lot faster – not today. Been at it since 7am – and it is now 12:30 was only trying to upload 18 pictures. If I was not in a slow patient mood or had somewhere pressing I be I would be cursing up a storm.

The rest of my day involves cleaning and couch surfing.

UGH – tacoboy was going to the store this aft and he realized that both our bikes were stolen – now we are back to being on foot. Someone had busted our lock and made off with them. Not to everyone take a picture of your bike for safe keeping.

Toga Party

Getting crafty this aft since I do not have a sewing machine so it was my travel iron and packing tape to hem my fabric. Now I am just trying to work out the best way to make it fit and keep it from falling off. According to How to make a toga site – six Yards is the official recommendation but they think it’s too long. Five Yards is a little closer to reality but still on the long side depending how much draping do you want. Four Yards is good enough for a simple man or child’s toga and they say most people find four yards will do the trick for almost any kind of toga. Sure wish I had bothered to look that up before I came home with the 2 yard recommendation I saw on facebook invite ha ha.

AC and Larry’s party was a blast. Full blown toga convention – everyone did a great job on their outfits. They had Troy projecting on the wall – Rick Leona and I were laughing cause the music that was playing was very fitting and so funny against the battle scenes.

Beach Wedding

Some of you may remember a while back I mentioned a surprise invitation – today is the day the cat comes out of the bag on that one. We are headed 4 miles south to Casa Hol Chan to our first wedding of 2010 – Matt aka buzzbean and Karen’s are tying the knot.

More details pics to come got 267 of them to sort through in the morning.

I have been sitting here trying to think of what I wanted to say about the wedding. It had much more of an impact on me than I expected and Paul says same. For me it started on our bike ride with a sense of adventure in riding 4 miles south for a wedding at a place we had never been (seen it from the water many times). I did not totally know what to expect I just knew we were going to have a good time and share in Matt and Karen’s special day. Dulce was the wedding planner and she brought her friend and Mike and Gary two great musicians. Eiden gave a wonderful ceremony and there was not a dry eye in the house when Mike sang his wedding song as part of it. We even had a wedding crasher a dog next door by the name of Boozer – found out his name through wedding message board post.

By the end pf the day we were all blissed outand to top it off Paul called us to come fast on the balcony to catch the end of an incredible sunset. Afterward Matt Karen Paul and I hopped on our bikes and headed for El Divino for a nice dinner. I found some romantic music for the ride between Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Then one of my fav old songs came on the hokey pokey by Ray Anthony and Dorris Day and we did the hokey pokey while riding down the road.

I almost forgot Buzz wins the award for best rum punch. His blender mix of pineapple juice banana rum and a special orange secret ingredient was a big hit. Can anyone guess what his secret ingredient is?

Mobile Party Posse

What a fantastic afternoon – nothing like hijacking your friends front yard on the beach with a full out bbq party.

John Henry Grilled up a storm – chicken wings – burgers and pork chops we had enough food to feed a small army and then some. Chunky was agreeable to having some wings and chops for tomorrow – last day of their San Pedro season and it saves them on cooking. Molly was definitly agreeable to have the left over half burger.

After dinner some of us played Yahtzee while others went straight for the hammocks.

Party posse moved over to the hot tub at Caribbean Villas. I came home to clean the coolers and get blog done. Was going to go back and join them but they were already on the move and then everyone suddenly fizzled out fast.

p.s. Joe I somehow managed to loose that good pic of you in the hammock I swear I uploaded it and did not see it this morning. We will just have to have a do-over.

Mango Tango

I just finished making 20 chicken veggie skewers for Chunky and Ruth’s bbq this aft – almost time to walk across the road to Coral Bay better go get ready.

No Rest for the weary

We could so easily have caught up on sleep today if it weren’t for work and the 2 parties we had to attend.

1st stop was the book signing at Pages book store. Joan Fry was reading from her book How to Cook a Tapir – would have loved to have stayed longer – hear more of her reading and do the dinner at Hummingbird but we had to make our way to Madame’s. You can get her book at Pages and also make donations to the Maya Scholarship fund there as well – a very worth while cause that deserves support.

Luckily we caught GwenA and Chunkyruth passing by on their way and managed to squeeze in for a ride.

Easter Funday

This morning I told Paul the Easter Bunny did not find me but I was wrong Bunny was just on Belize time – she and her helper turned up with 5 pairs of sandals in all colors and 1 pair of runners.

Treasure hunt

Getting more things set aside for the Stuff Swap at Pedro’s tonight. It’s always like a treasure hunt – you just never know what will turn up.

Lyle and Don – are down on the veranda jamming. They sound great. What a treat to hear good live music in your own home on a sunny San Pedro afternoon. They are playing songs like Chery Bomb and run around Sue.

Thanks to Pedro I got biggest surprise at the stuff swap. He arranged a party to celebrate my winning public vote for Lonely Planet travel blog awards. Pedro enlisted Pauls help to get people there who might not have been planning to come to the swap – had someone decorate and a lovely cake made by Rebecca. I also got a worlds best blogger certificate from Shuffles and RLD and Joanne made me a fantastic taco trophy.

Swap was good – I was not sure if it would be as busy as usual as a few people are out of town but we got a decent amount of stuff and everyone seemed happy to find some treasures. People kept showing up staggered with stuff – made it fun as every time someone brought more in we would all wander back to the table and have a fresh look.

Lunch at Lime

Caught a great sunrise this morning – I still find it so amazing that I can actually see this from bed – was gorgeous enough to make me go take a pic from the balcony.

Today is the Aquafit luncheon at Lime 1 pm – I am sure it will be a packed event as 10 – 15 people rsvp’d already and I know not everyone that planned to come has checked in yet.

A message from Mario – On behalf of Vicky & myself I would like to thank the community for their support in the Valentine’s Hungry Monkey Subs Holy Cross fundraiser. We sold a total of 146 12″ subs in 4 days and raised 150$ for the school.

Aquafit Lime luncheon was great about 15 or so of us turned up. We got to meet Dan who had not come to class yet but plans to – Gene and Kathy also managed to stop by before they had to catch their tropic flight starting their journey back to the states. Maureen said we should do this more often – it really was fun to socialize outside of class and enjoy a meal together especially since it was her cooking. You can see more pics on Ruthie’s blog.
