In July 2017 the 1st International Deep Sea Classic Fishing Tournament was held at Grand Caribe and it was a big success. The 2nd annual deep sea classic is on track to be bigger and better. The prizes have increased substantially and more boats have entered. Last year all totaled $44,000 in cash and prizes were given away. This year there is over $50,000 in cash and prizes.

That is going to make for an exciting finish line so grab your cameras and head on up to Grand Caribe to watch the weigh-in. This is a family friendly event and open to the public. This is currently the It is the biggest fishing tournament in Belize and the only tournament that is Bimini start which means all boats leave from Grand Caribe dock at the same time. This tournament is monitored by the Belize Game Fish Association (BGFA) to make sure that proper environmental procedures are met. The briefing for the tournament begins August 9th at 6:00 pm at Grand Caribe. There is a registration fee of $1,200. All entries must be received by 10:00 pm Thursday, August 9th, 2018 to be eligible for the tournament. The fee for shore guests is $50.00 for adults and $25.00 for guests under 18 years old. Currently, Grand Caribe Belize is the closest International Game Fish Association weigh station. That is a big deal for fishermen as previous to the resort becoming an IGFA weigh station, fish would have to be flown to the closest weigh station for official counting in.
